This car will always be remembered as the true Japanese sports car. I'd like to restore one in 10 years from now :)

To be honest I prefer this one instead of the new GTR. This looks more 'manly' while the new one looks like a 'boy's toy'.

I just love Skylines, if I could, I sure would buy one.. If I just had the money, oh, cruel world.

Skyline GT-Rs have always been very very unique and special. While Ferraris or Lamborghinis of Alfa Romeos have got "soul", this car hasn't, but it has got a brain, a genius one. From the R32 onwards, even for today's R35, this car is truely, a symbol of the victory of technology over physics, with stuff like Attesa ET-S, Active LSD, Super HICAS, clever suspension.......

I love this Skyline GTR, it has way more character than the new one
Sounds ruder as well

523ps from 2.5litre straight six is nothing short of whichcraft.

That's commonplace with these motors. There are a lot of these monsters running around with over 800hp on the stock bottom end. A friend of mine had an ER34 sedan with an RB26 from a GT-R in it & when he sold it that thing was making over 600whp all day every day with minimal mods. Didn't even break a sweat.

you can say whatever you like, but it implousible to pusch 200 bhp per liter with a ''minimal mods''

You do have a point, but remember, that is the RB26DETT, the well-known powerplant sooooo tuneable that it made the GT-R famous for that. Stock car does 280ps, but you can get 400ps with only a chip change. This is no ordinary engine. We're not talking about 200hp per litre on an NA engine. These figures are really piece of cake for this engine.

Thanks Douglas6250. It may sound strange to him, but ask anyone in the know. The stock R34 was rated at only about 280 hp, but in reality dynos proved it was closer to 330-350. With an intake, exhaust & a boost controller, 400hp is easy. The stock turbos have ceramic turbines & that's the weakest link, but swap the turbos & intercooler (the stock FMIC is at it's limit at just over 400whp... seen it on the dyno myself more than once) and you're just begining to scratch the hp surface. I had an Evo IX that I modded the hell out of (1000cc/min. injectors, Walbro in tank 255lph pump and FPR, ARP head studs, Cosworth 280 cams, complete Ferrea valvetrain, HKS head gasket, AMS turbo kit with GT35R Turbo, PWR intercooler, Tial 50mm blowoff valve and 44mm wastegate, Tilton twin disc clutch, AEM EMS & running 28lbs of boost... 509whp, well mannered & daily driven, stock bottom end) and my friend's skyline made more hp with waaay less mods, & absolutely nothing done to the bottom end on it either.

well i accept that you can push 200bhp per liter without touchin bottom end, but other modifications isn't so minor.

Well, whether you want to admit it or not, it doesn't make it any less true. A turbo + intercooler swap is a very minor mod in my book. Anyone mechanically inclined could do it on an RB motor in a couple hours. I've swapped several turbos in my backyard. I find it amusing that you're trying to say that a few bolt ons are major mods... but since you're hell bent on being a skeptic, don't take my word for it: do yourself a favor & look up RB26DETT, & Skyline GT-R. You'll find plenty of them (in Japan & Australia especially) that are making the kind of power I'm talking about with very minimal mods. You'll find photos, build sheets & dyno runs to prove it.

Would take this over the new GTR V-Spec without even second thought...
God I miss my friend's old GTR...

I would still take the new GTR over this, but this is undoubtedly a great piece of kit. Very impressive work. Good job, JAPO.

The real Nismo Z Tune car though, is amazing as it manages to impress everyone and clocked 1:01 on Tsukuba on Street tyres, not the semi slicks on this one, so I hope this JAPO one would handle as well as the Nismo car.

The Legeng revived, I love the R34, great job JAPO, hope you do the same thing with a Supra, when this R34 and Supra get tuned to 750 hp it's impossible for most super cars to beat them
July 29, 2010 5:46 am
Actuallu i think its a stroked RB26DETT to 2.8L like the Z-Tune, but not using the original Z1, 2.5 might be a typo
July 29, 2010 6:23 am
all you need to know is that the conversion unit from hp to ps is 1.014!
July 30, 2010 2:08 pm
[It's a 2.6 engine. The single-turbo Skyline GT-ST was a 2.5]
I admire their spirit, but while I'd rather have this than an R35 (which I love), really, I'd prefer a genuine NISMO Z2. I know there were only 20, and I know it's 20-odd horsepower down on this, but it's more special. It's the mother of all GT-Rs, not to mention my dream car.
Besides, if they were really being accurate, they'd have used a second-hand V-Spec II. Maybe that's just pedantic...

look at this thing, then look at a 911 from the same year. Its going to be the same thing in 10 years from now with the new GTR vs 911. Nissan will always just be a Nissan and a porsche will always be a Porsche.

The body looks poorly done! You can definately tell the differance from a real one, but the price for it isnt to bad if the performance is there!
July 29, 2010 2:04 pm
Ahh... the legendary R34 GTR Skyline. One of the best sports (and tuner) cars around. Coincidentally as I read this post, a black R34 GTR passed my house with a loud rumble... truly living up to its name as the "Godzilla".
July 30, 2010 12:36 am
I thought I would never hear about the R34 again. All the used R34's should get shipped all over the world so I can have one for a bargain here in the US.
