a diesel-powered M5 ...
I prefer that they definitely kill the M5 name if they can not make it more environmentally efficient rather than putting a diesel in it...
at least we could remember the good old time rather than trying to keep the things nearly the way they used to be ...
Just like a diesel powered Mustang would make no sense at all...
be innovative and create new standards without referencing outdated things that can not exist anymore...
we have to be councious things are changing and this might be one of the last m5

If they make a diesel version of a high performace 5 series, they shouldn't call it a M5. Maybe they should call it the 550d M sport.

Or call it an M5d. It wouldnt surprise me if they produced a diesel variant of all the M cars within 3 years. I had a 335d M Sport that was remapped, and it was faster than the E60 M5 (0-60 and mid range), along with most cars costing two or three times more!
We all thought that Porsche would never go diesel and voila! Ferrari are talking about hybrid technology in future cars, so nothing is impossible.

diesel? M Group? No way!
I guess BMW would rather follow Audi's approach to this "problem" as they dindt make the V12 TDI Q7 a "Q7RS"

Thats what I heard about M division and forced induction - and it will buy more time before reverting to the future standards that all the tree-huggers want to instill- that we should all drive box-cars, that sound and perform like a vacuum cleaner. That to be followed by legislation to ensure for safety's sake all cars in the future handle like a refrigerator...

hell yeah diesel!! They are just as capable as petrol engines, and deliver a lot more torque and overall are faster...only problem would be the engine sound!
this is just a rumour though, unlikely but probable.

unlike the RS6 which has come and gone in a short time without anyone caring, this M5 is gonna be a big hit and stick around for a long time like C63...
