Lambo SUV may share platform with sibling brands' Porsche Cayenne/VW Touareg

It seems that all automakers, including the boutique ones, are thinking big for the next decade and are adding models in anticipation of expanding sales.

This time it's Lamborghini, which will be introducing two entirely new models to its lineup, according to a Car and Driver source.

The first will be a V8-powered entry-level sports car positioned below the Gallardo. It won't be the first time that Lamborghini got into the compact sports car segment, back in the 70s and 80s it had the Urraco and its successors, the Silhouette and the Jalpa, which competed against the likes of the Ferrari/Dino 308 GT4 and the Maserati Merak.

The second model will be an SUV - inspired in part by the LM002. Being a VW Group brand, the Lamborghini SUV may come to share a platform with the Porsche Cayenne/VW Touareg, although, as a Lambo, it will have its own distinct style completely separate from those two sibling models.

Another entry-level rubish strategy from Lamborghini. If VW wants to make a SUV Lamborghini based on the Cayenne or Touareg, knowing that and paying many thousands of euros more, you must be a gigantic fool.

Please, I'd love to see your rendering of a Lamborghini SUV in paint. Seriously, post an imageshack link when you're done

The artist rendering is absolutely hideous. IF Lambo desided to make an SUV, I assume it would come out gorgeous, trumping the competition in what comes to the looks of the vehicle.

"A Lambo R8" = gallardo. they are referring to something lower in the chain.

I hate when exclusive car manufacturer has a need to build a SUV car...like cayenne... I hope eventually they will decide not to make one and instead put estoque into production. Supercar brand should make supercars and anything else, that's why they are on market. despite the fact many people buy SUV (which I personally dont understand) for me releasing such car somehow damages the image of car maker..it wont be the lambo which makes supercars...it will be lambo that makes supercars and SUVs

I remember seeing this lambo concept at the NYC autoshow when I was a kid. Thought it was pretty interesting for the time. I'm not really a big fan of big suv's because i don't really have the need, but i can appreciate their usefulness. However, I do like the sleek SUVs as of late, which are essentially tall sedans. I don't carry much other than golf clubs or maybe the occassional trip to Home Depot, If I had the opportunity, I would buy the Lambo concept above. Looks nice. Keep in mind, even supercar companies have to stay profitable, and selling SUVs is a good way to do this simply because people buy more of them. I know in here we tend to be critical of anything less than 1 billion horsepower, but in reality SUVs are a good decision especially on a shared platform. That's where you get the money to make the nicer toys. Narco.

I dont give a damn if there is a lambo with "only" 300HP but I wish it was still a sport car...just more affordable for those who dont have enough money to buy other models...but please dont enter SUV segment... unfortunately...the money has always had the biggest strenght in decision making process.

I want to see a Lambo V8, but a Lambo SUV? That would trash their reputation.

What happened to the Estoque?? Please give us a 4door-coupe, base it on the Panamera to save costs, but dont make a Cayenne-like SUV! V8 entry-level is a good idea though.

The V8 I can live with, but only because they've done it before. The SUV needs to be very much like the LM002 - awful but brilliant at the same time. Not a school-run pile of shit, but something in the same spirit as the Hummer: Massive, really expensive, big brutal engine. Most of all, it needs that intrinsic Lamborghini-ness. If you want a more useful SUV with a prestige name sellotaped onto the front, buy a Porsche Cayenne or a BMW X5. And VW, don't platform-whore all your prestige brands. If I see a Bentley SUV......

a Bentley SUV! looks improbable but not impossible... RR will never do such a thing but Bentley...well...

How about reviving the Estoque project...makes a lot more sense plus it was a beautiful car, seems like a win-win.

I was about to say the same thing like Narco said, of course Lamborghini needs to stay ahead or be global company but not everyone can afford a supercar, just like Porsche, bmw, VW & Mercedes. I hope they make a better SUV, it should have speed like Cayenne & offroad driving like Range rover.

if you were lamborghini, how will you expand business? they already have the murcielago replacement in line, and possibly the gallardo replacement. even with the endless, yearly special editions, they want to build more. what would you build?

Well, if there's someone who's willing to take a risk, then avoid the current SUV/crossover formula and see if they can start a trend in towards a lightweight, balanced, sporty, down-to-the-ground people carrier as opposed to these top-heavy and overloaded beasts...There's always got to be a leader, and I believe that the more imaginative brands can do it.
