Citroen Survolt & Metropolis concepts edge close to production
Citroen Survolt Concept

After the successful test run of the Citroën Survolt at last weekend's Le Mans Classic, inside sources at the French automaker say the car will get the green light.  The all-electric prototype uses two motors, and has a twin battery supposedly capable of a 124 mile (200 km) range.

“It’s still our intention to put the Survolt into low-volume production, and we’re pursuing the idea of a one-make race series,” a Citroën source told Autocar.  The two-seater is reportedly capable of a sub-five second 0-100 km/h time, with a top speed of 162 mph (260 km/h).

Concurrently, the automaker may also bring the Citroën Metropolis concept to market as the top shelf model in the DS line.  The long and smooth car would be another crack at the executive sedan market for Citroën, after dismal sales figures for the C6.

“We cannot afford to let the likes of Audi, Mercedes and BMW forge into Citroën’s heartland supermini territory without fighting back and pushing into theirs,” PSA boss Jean-Pierre Ploué said to Autocar.  “Selling large luxury cars in Europe is not easy at the moment, but I believe Citroën has a great deal more to bring to the market."

If it comes to market, the Metropolis could be sold as the Citroën DS9.

Yes, Citroen do it. Large extraordinary saloon DS9 would be something spectacular. Survolt as an experience works too.

Yes! I love the Metropolis. It looks like Jean Reno would drive one. Will the Survolt still get it's own one-make series or will it just be low-volume road car production?

Finally some extremely beautiful cars and a glimpse to the future, so far we've seen dozens of concepts of futuristic looking cars but none of them were built, these however... I really wish they built these and not just talk big, it's about time we stepped to the new era in automotive world.

It is good to know that Citroen wanted to redefine their model range with recent interesting concepts and putting them to production. Just make sure that the concepts do not get too watered-down.

Metropolis will only be a good used car as French executive cars though beautiful just don't sell in Europe (apart from France). After killing GT by gran Turismo will they build the Survolt? Well if Joe Public can't drive it can they at least build it as a race car?

What an ugly car. There's nothing that I like about this design. Just a blend of ugly lines.

Metropolis can be something like new C6 (or DS 6). Survolt - compact sport coupe such as Peugeot 308 RCZ

My father in law have an almost brand new C5 mainly for repairing it twice a month at Citroen rep due electronic failures. Sometimes he drives it too - I saw myself.

Look Citroen, for the past five years you've been making me salivate after your 'concepts', but when are you gonna make these two 'daddies'? However, you need to fix up and look sharp with your electronic gremlins and engineering reliability issues! The Metropolis is an S-Class with a French vavavoom and the Survolt is pure supercar bolt-lightning! Make these two and I might just forgive you of my previous complaints. Zey are simply magnifique!
