BMW M3 in Frozen Gray requires paint care agreement from buyers

BMW M3 in Frozen Gray requires paint care agreement from buyers
BMW M3 Frozen Gray Coupe Special Edition

Customers wanting to buy the BMW M3 in Frozen Gray matte exterior paint are being forced to sign a statement that the automaker is not liable for damage to the car's paint.  Refusing to sign the paper could result in the sale being cancelled.

Treatment of the car's specialized paint means the owners must never polish or wax the vehicle, or enter an automatic car wash that uses hot wax.  A high pressure rinse is also required before hitting the auto wash.  The car must be treated with kid gloves by the owner, who must remove excrement (huh?), fuel, insects, oil, sap and tar immediately with a sponge, while taking care not to rub the paint too hard.

Repairs may only be completed by a BMW-certified body shop.  Any damage to the paint caused by nature, poor mechanics, bad or incomplete home care, or negligent behavior will not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Enjoy!

When I buy the car, they can't tell me what to do... Why do they care if I ruin the paint?!

It seems they don't particularly care, they just don't want to be liable. But honestly if the paint is that fragile, what's the point of going through all the trouble? It's not like it looks much better than the other color choices. Learn to make the paint durable before selling it.

why buy a car that needs to be washed by hand and nothing else you can do to keep it looking good.

So right off the bat you can make your nice M3 look like a primered POS for a price. All one would need to add is a fart can exhaust and a plastic wing on the front.

I Have a better Idea, Last year, I had my M5 wrapped in matte black (there were more than 20 matte colours). Firstly, no need to paint your car and waste your time cleanin it. Secondly, it will protect your original paint and it has 7 years warranty. Finally, you can wash it anywhere anytime by anybody. it costed me arround $5,000, not so cheap but really amazing.

... im sorry. looks like any other silver (which i think really is a car that hsnt been painted they just sprinkle glitter on... but this one, you don't even get the glitter!) car to me. i miss the days when people had imainations and bought RED, BLUE, GREEN... hell, even brown cars. Im tired of all this boring silver bullshitt. Id rather have 9 differnt shades of red, not grey...

Great, now the M3 paint can match the insecure/fragile douchebag behind the wheel.

so basically the resale on these will be garbage because the paint will look like crap 3 years from now! How can they make something that sounds like it can barely hold up against everyday things (birds, tar, bugs, etc.)and expect it to last? Good job bmw... next time paint the cars with chalk and make people sign an agreement never to get the car wet.

BMW should also offer a waiver/warning to protect themselves from the heavily flawed & dangerous M DCT.

This is precisely the reason why MAT paintings were not used so far ... it now becomes trendy but this must be a nightmare to keep it nice and consistent over the years !! BMW is just true to their customers and warn them in advance... Wonder how the MAT cars will look like in a couple of years

Drivers are also required not to drive on a rainy or sunny day or else they will have to be penalized for reckless driving.

well you should hand wash cars if you love them anyway..and if you buy any M there are strict running in rules to follow to avoid ruining the warranty. It's just like buying a super prestige car from Rolls Royce etc.

Matt paint needs a special care for keeping the paint looks new, it's better to wrap the car with a frozen gray foil so you can take the car to an automatic car wash ten times a day with no problem

Isn't matte paint actually painting the car but not applying the final gloss finish TO PROTECT THE PAINT? I find matte fascinating in a I-don't-see-many-like-this kind of way. In reality I wouldn't do it to my car unless it was a removable vinyl like some posted earlier. I like my cars shiny! It would be interesting to see the natural effects on a Matte painted car 1-2 years down the line.

@ accousticjama. What's wrong with the M DCT in your opinion? I know it's not perfect, but have you had a bad experience?

Dudes, is it just me or, is this a special edition? it's a special paint, if you all want the m3 without this paint you can have it! You all talk about this as if it was a big deal, huge problem, but what about buying a car that you cannot have in your garage? its the same s. but worse! bmw just doesn't want to be blamed if the paint appears to me damaged! Bcause, as you all should know, this kind of paint still is "a work in progress". If you don't like this kind of agreement, you have other choices.

The overall look is not so fantastic to be worth the headache with the paint.

In my eyes, it's just Silver given a fancy name and price tag. Another reason never to consider buying this car.
