2011 Peugeot 508 first details and photos officially released
2011 Peugeot 508, 12.07.2010

Peugeot has released official details of the all-new 508, an upmarket car that replaces the 407 range. Earlier WCF published leaked photos of the car. Marketing gurus from the French marque describe the 508 as being full of French chic, with an elegant and timeless exterior design.

Peugeot is moving uptown with the 508 and as such, materials used are said to be of higher quality than its predecessor. It has a larger boot and shows a general increase in interior space.

Cutting C02 emissions is paramount to Peugeot's sales strategy, and the 508 is said to lower emissions while improving engine performance. Dynamics are also said to be up a notch and weight is kept to a minimum.

The new e-HDi stop and start system offers a fuel efficiency improvement of up to 15%, according to Peugeot. The big news of course is that the brand's Hybrid4 technology will become available after launch. It will feature 200 bhp (147kW / 203 PS) performance and an AWD system. Emissions are 99g/km in normal combined driving or 0g/km in full electric mode.

Peugeot will start selling the 508 in sedan and SW (wagon) from the beginning of 2011 following their public debut at the 2010 Paris International Motor Show in October. Europe will get a French-built model while China will market its own built-in-China version.

  • New design look
  • Benefits from e-HDi and HYbrid4 technology
  • Available in Saloon and SW body styles

The Peugeot 508 introduces the Marque's new design look which has evolved from the stylistic codes first unveiled on the SR1 Concept Car.

Combining both a stylish and strong design with cutting-edge technology; quality, purity and efficiency have been the watchwords that have guided the Peugeot designers and engineers during the creation of the 508.

The stylish exterior design is elegant and timeless and full of 'French chic', equally at home in Paris or London. The interior of the car combines hi-tech with the use of high quality materials and every detail has been chosen to offer indisputable perceived quality, both visually and to the touch. An exceptional interior space, a very generous boot, and a level of standard specification provide interior comfort and convenience of a very high level.

In line with Peugeot's strategy to produce vehicles that emit low levels of CO2 and optimise fuel efficiency, the 508 has been designed to optimise the performance of its engines, enhance environmental efficiency, reduce weight and improve aerodynamics, matched at all times to a broad range of highly efficient engines.

The Peugeot 508 will be powered by a range of engines all well positioned in their categories in terms of performance and driveability, but also fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. All engines will benefit from the latest engine technology including Peugeot's new e-HDi stop and start system. This is the first of the new generation of stop and start systems which offers improved driveability and economy enhancements of up to 15%.

After launch, Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology will become available on the 508 and will provide 200bhp performance with all-wheel drive and emissions of 99g/km of CO2 or zero in electric mode.

The Peugeot 508 will be available in two body styles: a Saloon (with a length of 4.79 m) and a SW (4.81 m). Both models will be revealed to the public in October at the Paris Motor Show, and will go on sale at the beginning of 2011.

Utilising the PSA Group's platform 3, the 508 will be produced in Rennes in France, for the European market and in 2011 in China, for the Chinese market.

great news! finally Peugeot made its own Passat (see the side line and the dash) using some lexus headlights and some features from the new renault Megane (the station version's rear). well I think its elder brother or cousin - C5 from Citroen - looks way better. yeah...nice passat, peugeot!

That's a mutant you describe there...Why we can't accept that these cars have in common their class and that overall dimensions are the same. If you really want to see really different designs in the same class prepare yourself to pay premium for that because it's going to cost new assembly lines, new technologies to be applied, elevated manufacturing cost etc.

Very nice interior. Good looking car. It will be very interesting with 240bhp Diesel. It's almost certain that it is based on the C5 which isn't actually something bad. I wonder if Peugeot wants with 508 replace only a 407 or maybe even 607?????

Why does a family saloon/ sedan need 200hp. Are there that many midde aged men trying to make up for a lack of somthing else?

What? Since when was 200bhp a compensating amount? In a car this size, it's far from mind-blowing. Also, consider how it's measure up in the company car fleet - the Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Insignia and BMW 3-Series all have variants with that or more power.

I'm a bit disappointed by the SW... was really waiting for it and have to say my C5 Tourer is really nicer. Will have to wait for the Hybrid technology to be available by Citroen... The sedan looks modern and nice.

There is a degree of plagiarism, but all-in-all this ought to be a good enough car.
