Renault DeZir concept hints possible Alpine revival - rumors
Renault DeZir Concept 05.07.2010

Only time will tell

Could Renault be preparing to revive the legendary Alpine brand? Possibly, according to recent reports.

While speculation is rampant, the unveiling of the DeZir concept is fanning the flames. The stunning coupe features a tubular steel frame and Kevlar composite body that is similar to the Megane Trophy race car, which is built in Dieppe, France. The latter is an important detail, considering Alpine was headquartered in the city.

Despite the rumors, Autocar sources have dismissed the idea that the DeZir is a preview of an Alpine Roadster. Regardless, the concept's front-end styling will likely be featured on the next-generation Clio.

As we have previously reported, the DeZir features a mid-mounted electric motor with 110 kW (150 PS / 148 hp) and 226 Nm (167 lb-ft) of torque. Power is provided by a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery, which allows the concept to travel 160 km (100 miles) between charges.

Love the originality and look of the grille, bumper and headlights. The rest of the car is too far into the art car/concept realm to really be meaningful in representing something that might be found in a dealer showroom.

Nice to see what exaactly will be never built, Renault. However it is a very good design again. Like it very much. Hopefully that concept is prepearing the ground for Alpine revival in some more "realistic" way despite earlier statements.

Unless it's small and light, that's not enough power for something that looks like that.

Is that the fuel filler cap in the middle of its back? Where are the exhaust pipes? Renault might want to rethink that one...unless they are going to supply a flameproof suit with ever car sold! It is beautiful all the same.
