Alsa Engineering pulls 724 HP out of BMW X6 M with upgraded turbos [video]

Alsa Automotive Engineering, based in Abu Dhabi, have tuned the BMW X6 M to an impressive 724 PS (533 kW / 714 bhp).  The company's CEO, Mohammed Al Sayegh, says the over-700 horsepower figure was obtained with no modification to the engine's displacement, unlike the 715 PS (526 kW /705 bhp) X6 M tuned by German outfit Nowack Motors.

"[Nowack Motors] have produced that by making the car a 4.8 liter instead of keeping it at its 4.4 liter engine capacity," Al Sayegh told WCF.

The tuning package, which includes upgraded turbo compressor wheels, is also available for the X5 M.  The new turbo components increase pressure up to 1.8 bar, but engineers did not stop there.  Modifications were also made to the engine control unit, along with the installation of high-flow catalytic converters and straight pipes.

The result is an increase in horsepower of over 32 percent.  Torque is also upgraded to a maximum of 945 Nm (697 ft-lb).  The SUV is now capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and on to 200 km/h in 14.6 seconds total.  Alsa Automotive claims a 325 km/h (202 mph) top speed.

"We are the first and only company to have successfully modified the turbo's so that the car can run higher boost on stock engine," Al Sayegh said.

Pricing on the Alsa Automotive Engineering BMW X6 M package begins at 68,000 Arab Emirates Dirham (€15,086, $18,514).

ALSA Automotive Engineering, a state of the art tuning facility located in Abu Dhabi, UAE has created what it believes to be is the worlds first tuned X6 M with modified turbo's (works for X5 M). This modification consists of modifying the stock turbo's compressor wheels allowing boost pressure to increase to 1.8 bar, installing high flow catalytic converters or straight pipes and modifying the ECU.

ALSA Automotive Engineering has been able to boost the cars power from 555 PS (408 kW / 547 bhp) up to 700+PS. During initial testing, ALSA found out that the car has a tremendous amount of drive train loss, which they calculated to be more than 30%. Power has increased from stock 555 PS to 724 PS. ALSA arrive at this number by adding the 30% drive train loss to the 557 whp and torque is increased to 945 Nm (697 ft. lb.). That is an increase of 169 horsepower to the wheels and next is stage II with modified headers! Looking at the pictures provided, the upgraded compressor wheels are on the inducer and exducer, each side around 2mm larger in diameter then stock wheels, along with a completely different blade design. In the picture from the side, you can see how different the blade angles are. All our improvements on the upgraded turbochargers will develop around 35% more airflow than the originals and are good for up to 2 bar of boost.

Performance wise, the car has become a rocket, launching from 0-100 km/h in around 3.8 seconds, 0-200 in 14.6 seconds and achieving a top speed in excess of 325 km/h rivaling sports cars such as Lamborghini's and Ferrari's. Pricing starts at 68,000 Dhs or 18,840 dollars installed at ALSA's facility for stage 1.

After achieving the mysterious numbers, the technician aptly forgot to print the dyno results as the M X6 sat there in limp mode for the remainder of it's life in the Alsa Engineering Garages... :-(

How brilliantly, ingeniously, inspiringly, wonderfully, spectacularly... utterly pointless. Sure, by all means see how far you can go with engine tuning - mind-boggling numbers are great - but at least slot the end result in a car that means something, not this hideous lump of evil.

If you're going by my user pic X6M, I should mention that I don't like AE86s as much as I do GT-Rs, and my love of cars does stray frequently outside of Japan. That's just the one from Initial D, which I used to read. I just meant that the X6 is a pointless car, which may not go down well with you, but we're all allowed an opinion. There's always a car that can do anything that this answer-to-a-question-no-one-asked can do, but do it better, for less money, whilst being prettier, or a mix of all 3 of those things. I meant that the engine would be better placed in something like a 5-Series or a Z#. Feel free to disagree, but that's what I think.

Wana know the truth? The only purpose an automobile has besides a truck, is to get a person from point A to point B. Some people just like to get from point A to point B in a rather interesting way. That is where this car comes in. What more purpose could you ask for? When your blowing past everything. In my honest opinion, the stock X6 M looks good in red and blue without any exterior modifications.

Transporting people from A to B is a car's main purpose, but I wouldn't call it the only one. A car can be many things to many people, otherwise they'd all be roughly the same. This niche car is trying to be so many things at once (off-roader, sports car, 5-door family car, "lifestyle vehicle", etc.) that it becomes a big compromise of all those things. The X6 for someone who wanted all sorts if nice cars, but could only afford one. It's also used mostly for showing off or as *ahem* an extension. Plus I really don't like the styling, especially from the B-Pillars back.

I understand what you are saying, Its like buying an all season tire. Something I would never do. Regardless the X6 M looks and performs like a beast. That is all that matters.

In Abu Dhabi, UAE, or the whole Middle East for that matter, not pointless at all! The Middle East?s infrastructure is still a developing one, our roads aren?t ideal yet for low clearance cars and low profile tires.
