Mercedes AMG SLS E-cell driving footage [video]

The quietest supercar film of the year

Mercedes has released a new video of the SLS AMG E-Cell on Norway's beautiful Atlanterhavsveien (aka Atlantic Road).

As we have previously reported, the E-Cell features a lithium-ion polymer battery pack and electric motors which produce 392 kW (526 bhp / 533 PS) and 880 Nm (649 lb-ft) of torque. While the company has been mum on additional details, they stated the E-Cell will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds.

In terms of styling, the E-Cell has a new front apron, an extendable front splitter, a wider grille, LED headlights, and 19-inch front / 20-inch rear wheels. Inside, the cabin boasts a unique instrument cluster, leather / Alcantara upholstery, carbon fiber trim, and a new infotainment system with a 10-inch screen.

That noise is just as annoying as the Vuvuzela are! I'd much rather listen to some engine rumble than this. It sounds like a fighter jet taking off.

I was with you right up until you said "Like a jet fighter taking off". Then it sounded really cool :-)

All this technology is exciting. This car should be almost maintenance free......no more oil, sparkplugs etc.

It's a Mercedes!!!! There will be something on this car that will require you to visit the shop at least every other month and spend a fortune. I have no idea what it is but it will be there trust me.

Definitely one of the coolest EVs ever. I like the wheels and the interior, paint it silver and I'll take it.

 M! M!
what car manufacturers need to sell these electric cars is a GUARANTEE on the battery replacement. either a one time set fee, or something like a 10 year battery upgrade warranty OPTION buyers can pay for the reassurance. Further, they need to be forward compatible, so that future batteries / source can be easily upgradeable for these electric cars.

and further on the electric car 'sound', they should have a driver selectable option: "quiet", "SLS AMG V8", "star wars vehicles....", etc etc.

A few thoughts, The car is beyond cool!! 1)its a little disconcerting to watch and hear no noise or engine rumble 2) Although it was beautiful scenery, you would never get my ass on that freeway, hate heights 3) I agree paint it silver and I will take one 4) I beyond totally agree with M about the battery and a battery opton waranty. I have ordered an SLS, and I have the SL 63 dont know where I'd park the electric, Oh shit I just by a bigger house LOL

think AMG doing very good job, 2009 and now 2010 best performance engine of the year second in the row in fight with GT-R, ferrari, porsche...now is another step forward and creating a full sport EV...is AMG becoming something bigger than just a Mercedes part for sport and racing vehicle??? we will se :D
