 2011 5-Series sold out worldwide
2011 BMW 5-series F10 Sedan 20.05.2010

Those of you looking to buy a 2011 BMW 5-Series may have to wait longer than expected.  The sedan has already been a hit for the automaker, who now reports that they are sold out of the model.

Fear not, 5er fans.  The result is that the newest customers will have to wait an additional, but not agonizingly-long, three or four months for delivery.  The popular car is expected to make up as much as 17 percent of BMW sales in the United States.

Though the car shares 70 percent of its parts and technology with the decidedly more expensive 7-Series, the 5-Series costs $25,600 less than the company's flagship model.  The new 5-Series has a starting retail price in the States of $44,550.

We wonder if some dealerships will try to add a premium on top of this cost, because of the early sell-out.

The 2011 BMW 5-Series went on sale in Europe this past March, with American sales beginning this week.

@ Garais87 You're the type of a poor guy who gets frustrated everytime he reads an article about BMW. You must be dying to see audi top out BMW which will never even happen in you're wettest dream :). BMW is big enough to let you know that audi is only an expensive vw and they will never ever touch BMW. I mean who's dumb enough to buy a vw when you have BMW and Mercedes Benz in market?. BMW and Mercedes Benz are real Germans machines,, audi is only a knock off looool.

ForceInduction: BMW founded in 1916, didn't MAKE cars until 1962. Audi founded in 1909 and bought by VW in 1964. Get your head out of your ass and realize that Audi actually has a richer automobile heritage than BMW. Also, considering that VW design was originally run by none other than Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, and since VW has taken over Porsche now to return it to within the family, I think Audi is in pretty good company.

Nah, my favorite car is a BMW. I just get frustrated by the space occupied by brainless moronic comments made by brainless moronic fanboys like yourself that I have to scroll down to get to some decent comments.

Great post by August Horch, good history there of the early Auto Unions for the enthusiasts here to appreciate. Then there are the fanboys like BavarianMS and ForceInduction. Their undying religious fervor for all things with the prop blind them to automotive beauty in other forms. Now BavarianMS will come back with some nonsense about how he's an enthusiast but an aficionado would never defend that drivel ForceInduction just put up about Audi. If someone doesn't like something their entitled to an opinion, you two would make wonderful dictators.

Exacly, in EU for some we need to wait even 5-6 (small cars mostly). So I wonder how soon BMW customers can get their own new car normally...

guess the marketing department or consultants gets a huge thumbs up on this

i think sold out = all production slots are spoken for by dealers. however, if you walk into any dealership, you can still place an order for spots that are held by dealerships and spec your own options. it is more like marketing to create tension in supply and demand. IMO, let's just wait for the M5 then. ;)

Actually, this is akin to raising speculation for the shear purpose of publicity. I wonder how well this will go down with BMW workers who are being told that there isn't enough work for them to go to work. They could easily just build more cars.

We cannot let you get away with talking horchsh.t.Audi has very little to be proud of in their past given the poor cars they produced in the early year's ,so there is not much heritage to speak of and the comments about Audi being a Vw with a different bodyshell on it is perfectly correct. An A4 is a Golf,an A6 is a Passat and an A8 is a Phaeton. It is the biggest con of the Motor Industry.

Don't get me wrong, I love their cars. But it's always BMW's sold out. X6 sold out. Even GT was sold out, few months later BMW made exuses for building 5GT. It's prooven that people rely on mass decisions. Wow everybody wants one so it must be good. Lame marketing.

come on people this is not unusual for a newly released car... demand for it will soon level out to its normal state.i guess people are showing their approval for bmw's return to decent/ conventional design.does anyone else think the front of the new z4 looks like a 90's hyundai tiburon??

the only way a car of this price is sold out world wide is if either they decided to produce an amount similar to the previous annum's sales figures.. however i doubt BMW are that stupid, this is all using a supply and demand sales techniques, as many of you will run off and tell everyone you know that BMW's are sold out thats how awesome they are hahaha. theyr great cars but i would like someone who has bought a spankin new 5'er to tell me how long they waited for their car after adding all the goodies? i would pressume exactly the same time it would take as to get one of these. I must say, well done to BWM, it is the oldest trick in book but looks like it still works

Autotrader says there are 430 new 2011 550is available withing a 2000 mi. radius of my home in the domestic US. It's the dealer allotments that are spoken for; besides, BMW can control discounting better with limited availability.

Everyone does this, it's a load of marketing hype. I see plenty of them here in Melbourne in the BMW Dealerships. I think they could have done a much better job considering the last model. What a load of marketing rubbish.

Looks like going with slightly more conservative styling this time round was a wise move by BMW. Although I have to say, their last 5 has aged very well. Can't wait to see more of the new one in sportier guises.

3-4 month wait for a german luxury car is not at all uncommon--especially if you are very specific with the options you want. i had to wait 3 months for my glk with the specs i asked for. we are also now in the third month of our wait for our e-coupe. want to beat the wait? go take one of the cars that are already on the lot. this also holds true for the sold-out 5er.

@ August Horch. You're the who has to get his head out of his ass, What you said is only happening in ur dreams. In the real world history says first BMW was made in 1928 dickface. And BTW you wanna talk about heritage and history? 5er is older than a6, 7er is older than a8, 3er is older than a4, Z series is older than tt, M1 is older than r8,6er is older than a5, ///M Division is light years older than //rs. Now thats history :) not a 100 year old who's called the biggest BMW copycater and u call it " heritage of auto onion or union. Now u can shut up :)

Wow Force Induction, you really are retarded. Audi produced its first car nearly 20 years before BMW started making cars. A6 and A8 are just names. They have their own predecessors. I like BMW but 3 y.o. morons like you and Bavarian really push the limits. Why am I wasting my time writing this. You lack half the brains to comprehend what I'm saying.
June 26, 2010 1:50 am

Only moron here is you. I have not said anything that was stupid or not true. Why are you talking about 100 year car old history that has absolutely no effect on today? It doesn't matter who started what first or last. Both BMW and Audi have been in the game for a very long time and I am sure know what they are doing more then both of us. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.
