2011 Suzuki Swift: Interior, more specs & new images revealed
2011 Suzuki Swift

New interior photos of the next generation 2011 Suzuki Swift show a car with a smoother dash, a built in retractable screen, automatic climate control, Bluetooth, and a USB port.  The car, which will be sold as both a three-door and five-door, will have more ventilation than the previous model, as well as keyless ignition and a new selection of sport cloth for the interior.

Full specs show that the car will be sold at launch with a choice between a 1.2-liter WT petrol engine, and a 1.3-liter DDIS diesel.  The four-cylinder 16-valve petrol unit produces 93 horsepower (69 kW / 94 PS) and up to 118 Nm (87 ft-lb) of torque.  Alternatively, the direct injection diesel, also a 16V four-banger, produces 74 horsepower (55 kW / 75 PS) and up to 190 Nm (140 ft-lb) of torque.  Petrol buyers get a choice between a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic, while the diesel only comes with the manual.

The 3,850-millimeter long car is 1,695-mm wide and 1,510-mm high (151.57" x 66.73" x 59.45"), and has a wheelbase of 2,430 mm (95.67").  This means the car is 2.5-percent longer, with a 40-mm longer wheelbase, providing both more legroom and more cargo space.  Hopefully, this will not detract from the Swift's small car charm.

Still, the car's scant kerb weight ranges from 945 kg to 1110 kg, depending on the transmission and added options.  By keeping the weight low, the relatively petrol engine and manual transmission get the three- and five-door to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds.  Add 0.4 seconds to the time with the diesel, or 1.2 seconds with the automatic transmission.  All of the manual transmission cars top out at 165 km/h, while the automatic models peak at 160 hp.

To help increase fuel efficiency, the petrol engine with a manual transmission will likely get a start/stop system.  Without start/stop, fuel economy on the petrol ranges from 5.0- to 5.5-liters of fuel per 100 km (47 to 43 mpg), while the diesel gets a combined 4.2 liters of fuel per 100 km (56 mpg).  This leads to CO2 emissions ranging from 109 to 126 grams per km.

Look for the 2011 Suzuki Swift to hit the market by the end of this year.

Suzuki has released more images and information of the European version of its exciting new third generation Swift light car.

The new images highlight the significant changes to the ground breaking light car that launched Suzuki's world strategy five years ago.

"We are very excited about the release of information for the new European Swift, but we are still some way off finalising the Australian version," said Suzuki Australian General Manager Tony Devers.

"The new Swift won't go on sale here until the first half of next year, and we are still finalising local specification levels."

The current Swift set new standards in performance and styling, earning it 63 Car of the Year awards around the world, and took the car to sales of one million units faster than any other model in the company's 100-year history.

"New Swift will realise even higher levels of performance and styling, in tandem with superior fuel economy and environmental performance," said Devers.

The European specification Swift will feature a new 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.3-litre diesel engine.

While Devers said Suzuki Australia was still considering all potential powertrain options for new Swift, he confirmed the new Australian version would offer even better performance and economy.
The latest photos reveal the European Swift boasts an all-new interior, drawing design cues from the highly acclaimed Kizashi mid-sized car.

They also show a new keyless push button start-stop system and all-new instrument panel.

"We have already revealed new Swift will be stronger, yet lighter, for better performance and safety levels. These latest images show that new Swift is well placed to follow in the footsteps of its award-winning predecessor," said Devers.

There are vague resemblances in the side, but not enough grounds for calling it a "Mini Megane".

More like a knock-off of a Skoda Fabia.

I don't like the fact that for this revision they followed The Peugeot Principle - When in doubt, make the headlights bigger. The new Honda Jazz does this as well and they just look odd. Those new tail lights make it look like a Fiat or Lancia at the back, but not really in a good way. Maybe it's just that angle. I'm waiting for the 3dr Swift Sport. Although if the automatics "top out at 160hp", I might just go for one of those. They sound like pocket rockets! Better than the "relatively petrol engine"...

I'm actually more interested in the 1.5L replacement. But like said before, hopefully the Sport version will get a VW 1.4 TSI.

they should overhaul the old R13B and add all of the new technology so it can be powerful, fuel efficient and sportier than a mini... perhaps by doing that they could raise hp more than the 185 they had by 1994 in Japan from the 1.3 lil banger

I still love these new swifts though i agree with Mikeado about the larger headlights. The restyle is cool but why bigger lights. Anywho, like the car alot but as mentioned by some commenters, it could use a bit more grunt by way of one more engine option, a 1.5l or so would be great. Swift sport FTW,

There is no doubt that the current Swift is a phenomenon of race, the car managed to do everything well, and when one of the only automotive journalists have seen and driven it. With the current Swift receives prestigious automotive journalists and researchers from Japan Conference (RJC) Car of the Year and going to win 63 World Car of the Year falling prices seem Swift, who also won the RJC has goods. As the owner of Swift Current, I want to spend more, but do not want to lose the things I love about my Zook. http://www.macktruck.org/used-suzuki-swift-maximum-return-for-your-money.html
