Next-generation CLS will come with two petrol/gasoline and two diesel engines

The second-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS is due sometime next year (as a 2012 model) and German car mag Auto Bild has the details on some of its specs.

According to the latest print issue of the magazine, the CLS will be offered with four power plants, two petrol/gasoline and two diesels, all featuring stop/start technology delivering improvements in fuel economy.

A CLS 350 CGI will come with Mercedes-Benz's latest 3.5 liter V6 engine with 306 PS (301 bhp / 225 kW) and 368 Nm (272 lb-ft) of torque. A 550 CGI will come fitted with the automaker's new 4.6 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers 435 PS (429 bhp / 320 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The latter being offered with an all-wheel drive option as well.

On the diesel side, will be the 350 CDI with a 3.0 liter V6 oil-burner producing 185 kW (252 PS). A 250 CDI variant is also expected to follow with a four-cylinder diesel producing 150 kW (204 PS).

Next year, Mercedes will also introduce a wagon version of the CLS (shooting brake) in order to make sure the model stays competitive in an ever growing four-door sport coupe segment with new competitors such as the Audi A7 arriving on the scene.

I'm waiting for the new CLS63, and i do actually want Merc to fit the new 5.5 TT AMG on the SLS and tune it to 600 hp instead of the current 6.3, with all the torque on the new engine the SLS will fly!

That interior is a colossal disappointment. If they were trying to cut costs (which they shouldn't be doing with this car) then they should've jsut given us the current interior. What is this E-class carry-over nonsense. WTF is wrong with you Mercedes?!

I don't understand all this "interior is disappointment" thing. Current CLS -class interior and last E -class interiors are very similar. yes there is a big piece of wood in CLS and the doorpanels are different. The E -class / coming CLS interiors are very nice places to be in and pictures don't do justice. Live they look so much better.

Very true, current E class interior is very nice, don't be fooled by the pics that its cheap looking, those interior pics aren't clear, better go to MB showroom and have a seat in E500 or E63

I've been in the 2010 E-Class interior and think it is a great place to be; the build quality is the best in its class too. It's just that this is a CLS, it's supposed to be a bit outside the box, just a bit more elegant, just a bit more. . . And this just isn't. That slab of wood makes a huge difference, completely transforms the interior. I just fear that MB is back to its corner cutting ways of the early 2000s when I see them putting this identical interior in the new CLS.

i think the interior pics looks exactly like the e class and frankly i dont like it a bit. Personally i like the interior of the new 5er way better.. how ever i am disappointed with the exterior of 5er as compared to the E. my dad just bought e350 blue eff. but i would prefer a 5er any day.

Okay, yes the wood makes a big difference. But so does the new steering wheel. http://mercedesbenzblogphotodb.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/2011-mercedes-benz-cls-klasse-c-218-autobild_7.jpg But this kind of corner cutting is waaay different than back in the early 2000's. As said the new E class interiors build quality is superb.

One thing though. I think that the CLS shooting brake interior is just awesome and it's stupid that they did't use that in the new CLS.

ok Mercedes... u cannot call this a "CLS550" with a 4.6 liter engine... u can, but 450 or 460 would make more sense. or 500, I miss the 500s (I like in the US)

the 250 CDI better have the 7G Tronic. the 5 speed on the E250 CDI is naff

A 250 is too cheap for a CLS, I don't want it to be affordable, it's a CLS, not E Class

It look like they're taking away the "four-door coupe" look away from it...it looks a lil bigger. They should keep the shape of the older one, just add a few tweeks...in my opinion, it is the best looking car Mercedes has made and I think its under priced
