Honda S2000 successor to be a mid-engine hybrid

some power with a 2.0 litre four cylinder revving to 9000rpm and an electric motor too. they need to keep that car alive with it having the best gear box and handling for a car of that size. i would seriously buy one at the right price

It's mid-engined, so it's not a successor to the S2000. It's just filling the void the S2000 left behind. All Honda S cars are FR. If it were a hybrid (although frankly the amount of speculation in this article makes it hard to know what to go on), the balance between the number of people going "Finally, a sexy hybrid" & those saying "WTF are you doing Honda? That's not a sports car! I want my S2000/NSX back!" would probably tip in favour of the latter, plus it might push the price up, so that wouldn't be a smart idea. My optimistic side thinks a new NSX, mostly because it's an MR though. Otherwise I think it must be a new model altogether, which is exciting. Perhaps they should offer it with an I4 and an I6 - basically a VTEC with two more cylinders so there's a cheap one and a faster one, and over a few years develop an electric and/or Hydrogen version on this new platform. Now they would be expensive, but I think the GT-R V-Spec and Lexus LFA show that people who can are prepared to spend extra for a Japanese car these days.

the real successor would have engine at front and rwd! also it should be named S3000 and with 6-inline hi-revving 360hp engine....with 4.7s from 0 to 100kph! that would be proper!

Ok. let me get this straight. supposed to be a mid engine but is based on the Honda Jazz/Fit fwd platform? Did I read that correctly? Listen, Honda. just make a 2 seat coupe along with the roadster and leave the mid engine exotic for your Acura Luxury brand.

As much as I love the idea of this, it's just going to be fat and overweight like the CR-Z.. which could have been a great car by the way. Quit going soft on us Honda!!

The S2000 was a great value and a competent performer but the design lacked the seriousness of its predecessor, the Prelude. I would much rather see a FR Prelude revival with a GT pedigree than another whimsical roadster. Performance hybrids are the new black, but Honda's misstep is making the powertrain the centerpiece of their designs. Lets hope the final molds are clean and modern with aerodynamic efficiency at the forefront. The H-word is just what makes it go, not what makes me want it...

A Mid engined (and more powerful) hybrid sounds interesting. Please do it Honda!

i really wish they will just put a bigger engine in and forget the hybrid idea... i mean hybrid is a good idea but not for the h2000 successor

Ok, this is rubbish. I wouldn't really care if every honda was a hybrid. But they should keep their hybrid madness away from a car like this. Hybrids weigh too much for this sort of car.

Why would a S2000 successor compete with the Mazda MX-5? The original S2000 was in a different (higher) class...performance and price. Anyway, i doubt Honda will make any pure sports cars in the near future.
