2012 Nissan GT-R facelift spied at the Nurburgring
2012 Nissan GT-R facelift first spy photos, Nurburgring, Germany, 21.06.2010 / Copyright: SB-Medien

Two camouflaged prototypes of the upcoming GT-R in both standard and Spec V configurations are spotted

Here are some spy pics of one (of two) Nissan GT-R prototypes doing some testing at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.

One of the camo-dressed prototypes appears to be a Spec V configured GT-R while the other is a standard model. Both, though, are sporting the same changes including the reshaped upper grille - now more horizontal without the upturned corners of the previous GT-R - and the new rear diffuser which makes for a huskier rear stance.

With the camo covering the bumpers and other touches and ducts - such as the corner flares behind the rear wheels which also hint at a larger detailed, more aggressive look - we can expect a facelifted GT-R to come with a substantial amount of changes.

The new GT-R is expected to debut later in the year.

What are you talking about?I'm a GT-R hater but i can't agree with you , The current model is still faster in Nurburgring than Porsches!

your comment just shows how biased you are towards porsche, or how much you hate gt-r, but i would go with - you are just an idiot.

beautiful.I drove once a GT-R and it was truly impressive.why hate this car?and why ugly?just because it doesn't look like a 911 it doesn't make it ugly.

It's a very fast car. But I think it's too much visible technology and electronics. Ferrari or Porsche has also an electronic systems which allow the driver drive fast and forgive his weaknesses but it's hidden. The GT-R is a computer on wheels. Fast, furious but I have a feeling that it was created on Playstation. For me it has no soul.

I think you put it quite well. You say GT-R lacks soul, but at the same time someone else can say that it has soul. Soul of modern Japan, computerized and crazy about new technology, soul of Playstation3, soul of japan teenagers crazy about tuning their GTR's with new turbos etc. GT-R is a computer, but at the same time a very special computer. Maybe GTR's soul perception depends on how you look at this car, I don't know :)

You're right. I agree that when people always say that Italian cars like Ferrari, Alfa and Lamborghini has got soul, but to me, the difference between these cars is what makes the GT-R so special. While the Italian cars got soul, they haven't got a brain. The brain is in the driver, so he could enjoy having total mastery of the vehicle. The GT-R, however, has no soul but a working brain. By having real technologies such as the Attesa ET-S PRO & the Super HICAS, these are not just simply done by tweaking the traction control and ESP. The driver can almost drive without a "brain" , because the car sorts out so many things for the driver.

While the GT-R does have a lot of "brains" (although I should mention that the R35 does without Super-HICAS, as it's too heavy and probably unnecessary given the advances elsewhere) and it's even designed to be driven hard by people of any amount of ability, it's immense potential means that, to a point, it's only as good as the driver. A top driver can do amazing things with this capable platform. Although less weight to deal with during fast driving would only be a good thing. Regarding the "soul", every car has a character. Some may be a little dry, and that argument is often levelled at cars like this that are all tech and engineering perfectionism. I think the Skyline GT-Rs may have been closer to having "soul" than the car-for-every-driver R35. On the limit they had a race-car edge that's been taken off for this car. Still, it's a hell of an achievement that they've made a car 155kg heavier than a 997 Turbo lap the 'ring faster, and that they actually filled all their criteria. Now it's just a honing process.

My brother owns one, it's an awsome car, the accelaration is impressive, I'm very impressed about this car, I drove it in a high way and it reached 300km easily! If the GTR is around 130 kg less weight it will smoke 911 turbo and Z06 easily

i love mine and i am glad the GT-R is aging well with minimal facelifts so far.

the Japanese showed the world they can make computers than can drive cars really fast for you. i guess i'm too old for such things, i'll stick to cars that i have to drive myself.

Hmm, little improvements. I like it. The 2012 GT-R will only be an improvement. Nissan's philosophy with the GT-R has always been "Kaizen". Kaizen means "constant improvement". Those band-aids on the front bumper make me think there'll be GT-R Proto-style intakes on the bumper. Or maybe they're hiding new aero tweaks. I will probably like the finished car. Because I'm a GT-R fan :-)

maybe its just me but for a V6TT engine, i'd rather have it in 6spd manual. its still an impressive piece of machinery nonetheless, though i'd probably never consider buying it.

Sorry... If the GT-R does not light your fire, then your wood is wet. I'll be the first to admit that before I saw this car in the flesh I thought it was ugly. When I walked up on one at a car show I had to call a physician because my erection lasted more than 4 hours :) I've seen a few here and there since then and it is just an amazing piece of automotive engineering (design and function). Call it ugly... that's your opinion to have, but to call it "a computer on wheels" is a little shallow and misinformed. It is a modern supercar with an amazing engine, suspension and braking system that is all assisted with the help of computers (that's not a new concept). It's Playstation control panel makes it look like a game, but push this beast to just half it's limits and you'll know that it is not a game. It is faster than or as fast as cars twice it's price. It has it's own heritage. The nickname Godzilla sums it up best. I'd much rather be caught in a GT-R than a Corvette.

You're absolutely right. I think that we shouldn't really treat the GT-R as a supercar, where the GT-R would be let down in this territory since it really haven't got any soul like it's Italian rivals. Maybe we should accept the fact that finally there is a normal sports car that can beat supercars. Supercars are no longer the fastest. In my opinion, the GT-R is such a unique car. You see, the whole concept of the car, since the original GT-R in 1969, has always been the same : Being front engined, rear wheel drive based, having a proper 4-seat coupe cockpit, AND, a proper, decent boot, which a lot of sports car has switched to a more modern fastback/hatchback design. This is why the GT-R is so unique. It's fast. Very fast, but also easy to go fast. This is also a multi purpose sports car. It has four seats and a decent boot, which means it's practical. It also has all wheel drive, which boosts it's all-terrain capability. What's more, being such a fast car, it returns a pretty impressive 8.6km/L fuel consupmtion. I don't think there is any car in the world that is so multi-tasked and unique. The unique spirit of the GT-R would live on.

I look forward to this minor-facelift Godzilla... Oh btw, I just saw an orange-blacktop example passing by my house, and the sound was aurally-fantastic! :-D

It is funny to see that the GTR just came out a couple of years ago and is getting a facelift… Now imagine that on a Porsche or some other high-end sports car… Would actually piss you off….. Now as far as owning one, I want one now….. I was always a Porsche person (turbo-GT3RS) until I drove the GTR on the track O.O The Porsche is more fun to drive on the track and is a bit tricky with the rear end sliding out if you want….. The GTR on the other hand took the corners like it was on rails…. I wanted it to over-steer at some point but the guy next to me almost got sick…lool If you’re looking for a rush get a Porsche, if you want to be safe around bends quietly/discrete get a GTR. I am sold, and will buy a 2012 GTR to have the best of both worlds

it might have a "computerized soul" but as you guys can see...they have done something great.and people turn their heads for this car.I mean when you drive a corvette its like saying "Look everyone, I have a big cock"...but with the gt-r...i leave you guys comment :).

In this case the GT-R would be saying "Look everyone I'm a genius and I have a clever brain, unlike those (corvette) big fat arm wrestlers from America that never have grip on the road !!!

it looks like nissan engineers are trying to increase the cooling, the front bumper is slightly more open, and you can guess the shape of 3 horizontal slits under the duct tape. the rear splitter grille does not match the rest of the car, it looks like it's coming from a different car.
