2011 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite minivan revealed

Cool features, weird styling

Honda has pulled the wraps off the redesigned 2011 Odyssey minivan.

Looking virtually identical to the Odyssey concept, which was unveiled at 2010 Chicago Auto Show, the van features a bold grille (similar to the one used on the Accord Crosstour), a distinctive "lightning-bolt" beltline, which increases third row visibility, and a roof-mounted spoiler. The top-of-the-line Odyssey Touring Elite boasts HID headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, 12.6-inch ventilated front disc brakes, power side mirrors (with integrated turn indicators), and a power tailgate.

Inside, the Touring Elite has a premium audio system, GPS navigation, a rear entertainment system (with split-screen capability and an HDMI input), a 150-watt AC power outlet, leather seats, second row captain's chairs, a "one-strap stowable 3rd Row Magic Seat", 15 beverage holders, and a trash bag ring! (No, we're not joking)

While the company declined to release performance specifications, the Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Thanks to three-mode Variable Cylinder Management, the Odyssey has an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 19 mpg city / 28 mpg highway.

Look for more information to be released ahead of the van's launch this fall.

The all-new 2011 Honda Odyssey seeks to redefine the concept of the minivan with its aggressive stance and sporty "lightning-bolt" beltline. The lightning bolt not only provides an exclusive appearance, but also adds increased visibility for third-row passengers. New interior features add more convenience for families, while available entertainment technology introduces high-definition connectivity and split-screen viewing. Currently the best-selling minivan in the U.S., the all-new 2011 Honda Odyssey is set to go on sale this fall. Compared to the current Odyssey, the 2011 model's lower roofline (-1.6 inches versus 2010 Odyssey EX) and wider track (+1.4 inches) contribute to a sleeker, stronger and more dynamic presence with improved aerodynamics that help increase fuel economy and also translate into more interior width.

Specifications

  • 3.5-liter i-VTEC™ V-6 engine with three-mode Variable Cylinder Management™
  • Preliminary estimated fuel economy, Odyssey Touring Elite (City/Highway): 19/28 miles per gallon*

* Preliminary EPA mileage estimates determined by Honda. Final EPA mileage estimates not available at the time of printing. Use for comparison purposes only. Do not compare to models before 2008. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.

odd and boring but will fall apart before the engine goes bad. I had a civic and replaced the rear quarter panels because they were so rusted. the cat converter went at 230,000 so i sold it but the engine still ran strong

I love that deep, noticable line for the sliding door that goes from the door to the tailright. it seemlessly blends in with everything!

If I ever have the need for an MPV, this would be the one. The press release is from the states, but is this thing coming to Europe?

That looks much worse than the concept van from 2 years ago. Honda design is taking the direction Chevy was in just a few years ago.

Three things I like about this; HDMI jack. Probably useless though. 8 Seats. And, it's not going to be sold in Europe. Minivans are SO last century.

The JDM and Pasific model is a lot better out and inside. Front looks like Honda Freed (Fit/Jazz SW http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Freed) or Airwave (from previous Jazz/Fit, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Airwave), but rear end could be the ugliest ever since. Interior is so boring as the presentation (why don't put button to flat those seats as others have). Then within that high roof, why bothers not to sell the Elysion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Elysion, note not the royal model that is suck). Before Honda looks in the right way for not going to be 2nd Toyota or Nissan, but now seems Mazda is getting over Honda, except for the Accord Euro.

Love it. We own a 2009 Odyssey and it is for me the ultimate practical family hauler.

How did Honda get so far from the simply well executed design language of about 2002 and earlier? Were they rocket-power-exciting before? No. Were they well resolved in a way that would age well? Yes. I am just so glad I am not alone in thinking this looks terrible! Yikes! Even the door handles were poorly executed by Honda, especially considering that Hyundai/Kia did this in 2007 with a better result: - http://wallpaper-s.org/17__Hyundai_Entourage_2007%2C_Minivan.htm The rest of the car looks like a lot of poorly resolved ideas. The rear looks like a parking lot nightmare, the sides are full of terrible creases and 'adventurous' elements that never add up, then of course the insult of the door track - AT THIS PRICE HONDA!? ARE YOU EFFIN KIDDING ME!? This design is on par with recent Chinese products if you ask me. The concept looked great, and yet here were are with a van that will soon litter the parking lots with its dated lines, terrible grill, and boring headlights... and those side mirrors!? Really!? And this is a top trim level... riiiight. Maybe in all black it will look alright... one can hope. Until the next design appears... a painful six or eight years from now, we can all hope that "Lightning Bolt Design" DOESN'T strike twice! Toyota for the 'win' at this point, maybe Nissan... or Chrysler/Fiat will bring something that can return order to the messed up van market. Sheesh!

It doesn't matter how it looks, it could be just another piece of terribly built vehicle from Honda. I own 3 Honda's, and the built quality of my 2005 Civic and 2006 Odyssey EX-L suck. Honda needs to take care of existing problems and apologize to their loyal customers before they do anything else.

Minivans should try harder to make the outside look good. Hide the track.....you have the technology. I am so against the 2011 Honda track....and the New 2011 Nissan that I will in no way by one of those vehicles. I drive a Dodge Caravan now....with a hidden track.....Toyota Sienna will be my next van... Swagger Van...Honda is ugly...just because I drive a minivan, does not mean I do not care about how it looks.

The Australian version of this car is 1000 times nicer, and we have had it for years now, the states is so far behind.
