A 2011 BMW 5 Series Touring (F11) clad in some of the usual psychedelic camouflage was spotted covering its M Sport package. We could get over-excited and think it is an M5 Touring, but alas, it is not. Performance was not enhanced, just the front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper.

The standard 5 Series Touring or wagon, goes on sale in the UK this September and will feature four engines, including a 2.0 diesel worth 135kW (181bhp / 184PS) and 380Nm, a straight-six turbo diesel making 180kW (242bhp / 245PS) and 540Nm, as well as a 535i Touring with a petrol turbocharged 3.0-litre good for 225kW (302bhp / 306PS) and 400Nm. The latter can go from 0 - 100km/h in 6 seconds and run all the way to 250km/h. All versions come with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Touring features luggage capacity of 560 litres (19.8 cubic feet). The previous-generation only had 500 litres.

Expect the 5 Series Touring M Sport package to be available at the end of 2010.

Nice car. In the photos, does the tailgate actually close in the 2nd pic with the mock washing machine? As a lot of my family drive BMW's I'd actually go for the Merc E-class in estate form. Regardless of which one though, they both beat Audi's A6. I remember my A6 having the most awful ride comfort.

The hatch won't close in the second pic you mention, based on the fact that it'll probably collide with the hatch frame upon closing, but may fit if it's turned a bit towards the centre of the back (if there's a little jiggling room). Has anyone really noticed that the hand brake has been reduced to an electronic control? After the number of bugs my current 5T has had, they might as well have just eliminated it - just pray for no electronic glitches. Best to take some collision avoidance training! Hellbound, I've got to agree with you - probably best to try the Merc. Just out of curiosity, which A6 did you have (year/config)? I'm contemplating a move away from BMW after this fiasco.
