It reminds me of the recent article showing a much less expensive Subaru STI with only 305 hp and 290 lb-ft torque and only a top speed of 155 mph was able to lap the Ring in 7:55. That means this brute powerful XKR is only good for straight line. Of course, STI is AWD. Again, it shows "power is nothing without control."

You are absolutely right. This alsom reminds me of the Honda NSX Type R. Power really isn't everything. Handling matters a lot. The NSX-R has only got 280ps, a whopping 250ps less than this car, but because it handles beautifully, it went round the ring in 7:56s
**I saw a recent article claiming that the Subaru laptime was done with R205 bonnet and R205 turbo.

Yes, and the E46 M3 CSL did 7:50 with 360hp and even less torque then the Subaru. With rear wheel drive as well. That was almost a decade ago to.

What must be remembered is that the Jaguar XKR is really a GT car. This is a muscled-up version of that, so comparing it to sports saloons designed to do the most with what they've got isn't entirely fair. This will be very heavy compared to an Impreza or an E46 M3 as well. The NSX Type-R especially is MUCH lighter, and weight is just as important as power and handling capabilities. In fact, lack of it can vastly improve the latter.

The 7.55 scooby was equipped with a few significant upgrades including a larger turbocharger that normally sees duty in the Japanese R205 model and some lightweight aluminum bits and there were rumors going round that it was had around 400bhp. The 7:55 lap time is a impressive result but you're not going to achieve 7.55 with a bog standard scooby and that makes me wonder how fast the standard STI.

What ??? A 523hp only !!! The standard XKR has 510hp! What is the price?? I love Jag's. Especially XK-Series, but I would rather buy a standard XKR 5.0 maybe with the recent Speed Pack and tune it in Paramount Performance up to 600 hp . I would bet it will go up to 300km/h or more.

the torque is humongous. to bad for the hp. i wish they could get more power from this unit. or a 4 litre v8, supercharged, with 500bhp.
