New engines, conservative styling

Several pictures of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta have leaked to the web.

Like the Compact Coupe Concept, the new Jetta features conservative styling, a modern grille, and a luxurious interior. While details are limited, the car measures 90mm longer than its predecessor which should afford rear seat passengers additional legroom.

Under the hood, petrol engines include a 1.2-liter with 104 hp (78 kW / 105 PS), a 1.4-liter with 121 hp (90 kW / 123 PS), and a 2.0-liter with 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS). Diesel fans get to choose between a 104 hp (78 kW / 105 PS) 1.6-liter and a 138 hp (103 kW / 140 PS) 2.0-liter. Eventually, Volkswagen will introduce the BlueMotion 1.2 TSI (which will get up to 44 mpg UK and have CO2 emissions of 124 g/km) and the BlueMotion 1.6 TDI (which will return 69 mpg UK and emit 109 grams of CO2 per kilometer). All models, except the 1.2 TSI, can be equipped with a twin-clutch DSG gearbox.

Stay tuned to WCF for full coverage of the Jetta's unveiling later today.

The usual fare, although there's a hint of Audi in the rear. I bet I'll forget what it looks like after I leave this page...

Come on VW, do something creative with your interiors! And why are you taking design cues from your premium brand Audi? This is a bad decision.

VW please don't turn into Toyota, with boring design and underpowered engines.

It will probably be produced in Pueblo Mexico. In the Time Square videocast at 11:30 EST, they mentioned a $16,000 price twice. I wonder if that is $16,995 or a theoretical base model that won't be available in numbers. Suspension? Engines? I hate to see them drop the price and content, give up Farfegnugen, and start competing with Corollas.

I work for a Volkswagen Dealer and the car is going to be built in Chattanooga, TN. No more Mexican product. The plant will build this car, the new Passat or what ever they will call it here and they have a 3rd production line that they say may build a Polo type small car. We have specs on the car, and the base model will be stipped to get it to that price! VW tells us that this plant will produce more new Jettas and "Passats" than VW sold in all cars in the US last year!

Wrong!!!, the new Jetta is gonna be produced in Puebla Mexico. Chattanoga will just produce the NMS (New Midsize Sedan). Passat substitute in USA.

Slightly better looking than the current model, which I do not like at all. Might have to see it in person before I pass final judgement though.

my..have you grown , Jetta . but you are still sporting ye olde pedestrian-type dashboard and seats. can't wait till Giugiaro overhauls the entire VW offerings ItalDesign-wise .

You have to admit, if it's going to look like something else, better to be Audi-ish as opposed to the current Corolla with a VW badge. I personally cant wait to start seeing the Italdesign cars showing up, though.
