Volkswagen Up mule makes an appearance
Test mule of Up! chassis is riding on a shortened-wheelbase Polo IV
Here are the latest set of spy shots of a Volkswagen Up! test mule - with the Up! chassis fitted to a shortened wheelbase Polo.
The Up! will be Volkswagen's new city/minicar and will come in a slew of variants including a 3-door hatch, a slightly longer 5-door hatch, and an all-electric version.
The electric-variant E-Up! will come with a 60 kW electric motor producing 210 Nm of torque. Othe variants will likely feature VW's small diesel and petrol/gasoline power plant lineup including its 1.2 liter TDI and 1.2 liter TSI engines.
The Up! is slated to debut sometime in 2011. The E-Up! is not expected to make it to market until 2013.

I had hope for this car until they announced that the engine was going to be in the front.

Will the "E-Up!" be shortly followed by a sports limited edition for the UK called "E-By-Gum!!", perhaps? I can't wait for the trim levels - "E-Up-Lad!" or perhaps the entry-level "Up-Yours!"...
I may be here a while...
