Viper-based Maybach Exelero replicas set to go on sale
The awesome Maybach Exelero concept of 2005 received so much attention on sites like WCF that we thought Daimler would build it. Unfortunately that did not happen. Instead as soon as it had finished its mission of testing Fulda's new high performance tyres and appearing at certain auto shows, the Exelero was retired to the company museum.
Now a report says a Swiss company has bought the rights to it and will start manufacturing replicas for sale. While it will not use the original V12 AMG engine, it will make do with a Dodge Viper 8.3-litre V10, which means costs will be saved, but not at the expense of good old fashioned power. Expect to pay around US$670,000 (€544 600).

Maybach suffers from low sales and it is beyond me why they never built the Exelero themselves, I fell in love with this car years ago when they first made it and I think it is the nicest concept they ever did and it could have brought Maybach back into the green.

to be fair considering their car uses a 2 gen old S-Class chassis with the interior from a 1 gen old S-Class i don't see how they can NOT have made money... how expensive can it be to recycle parts like that?
love the Exelero tho. would have challeged the Zonda for my dream "money no object" car if it was ever made... based on a Viper it somehow loses its appeal (tho i do like the Viper, it can't be compared to what Maybach car should be)

Spot on mate! I still have the picture of this biturbo V12 on my old phone when I went to see it at the Excel Auto Show. Even a Nigerian music artist, Dare, sang a song featuring 2Face titled, 'Dey Go' that made a passing reference to this Batmobile. Missed opportunity for Maybach who may never come back!

Look, I'm no fan of these flimsy "supercars" based on vehicles never meant to be what their offspring think they are. HOWEVER, a swiss maybach, built with purpose, attention to detail, and finesse, will only likely be let down by that engine. But tuned properly for cruising, the engine can do the perfect job here- after all its not about speed, in a car like this, you want to be seen, but comfortably waftable too! With a turbo and +- 500 horses, it sill do a good enough job- these cars are about the experience of being inside, NOT on the track.

It looks like a cheap replica by itself..a patchwork of random parts and cheap accessories , with the interior of a 90's toyota corolla ..
