Autobild has published this alleged leaked photo of the all-new 2012 Volkswagen Passat. It is not a Photoshop job or a mere drawing, but the real deal according to the magazine. However, the source has not been disclosed.
The curvy front end takes VW's new face and lots of chrome elements. The new Phaeton is undoubtedly a styling inspiration. For the first time the Passat also gets LED daytime running lights. Although bigger in size, the new Passat will not necessarily be much heavier as VW is rumoured to be planning on using foam reinforcement and ultra-thin glass as part of the construction.
Expect some engines to be shared with vehicles like the Touareg, and include a 3.0-litre TDI and a 3.6 petrol V6. A BlueMotion hybrid is also on the cards. The powertrain should include a 7-speed DSG gearbox and 4Motion AWD models.
The Passat will be quite luxurious, with equipment like all-round parking cameras, self-parking system and a wiperless windscreen speculated.
