B-Class will be offered as a sedan, coupe, and crossover

The CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, Ernst Lieb, has released new details about several upcoming products.

In an interview with Automotive News, Lieb confirmed Mercedes will expand their lineup to include additional C- and B-Class variants. He stated, "With (the) C-Class, we're sitting with a four-door sedan and not doing anything else. Now we will go into segments where (our competitors) are strong."

To tackle the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes will launch a C-Class coupe in 2011. Down the road, the next-generation C-Class will be available as a sedan, coupe, estate, and convertible.

Starting in 2012, Mercedes will also expand the B-Class lineup to include a sedan, coupe, and crossover. The latter will compete with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, while the coupe will target the BMW 1-Series. According to Lieb, Mercedes expects to sell 15,000 units of each B-Class variant.

While the company is still debating what engines will be offered, both the C- and B-Class will come with a four-cylinder.

Don't want to see only the empty half, but will all this cars find enough buyers to be profitable? Seriously, Mercedes will have 4 versions of the C Class and 4 for the B Class, Cadillac will also have a sedan, a coupe, a wagon and a convertible for the ATS, the next gen. Lexus IS will come in 3 or 4 versions and Infiniti G will fallow the C Class with 4 body versions, add some smaller premium brand like Acura, Buick, Jaguar, SAAB, Volvo, Chrysler/Lancia, Alfa Romeo and others and you will see that there is no chance for all those cars to find enough buyers, like Jay Leno said once, there might be to many car brands out there.

I agree. American car companies should just stop attempting to make cars.

If all these cars are built on the same platform, it is a good decision. Coupes and convertibles are higher profit variants that are essentially sedans with modifications. As for my friend S Zero, last time I checked the american brands in the list up there had some nice offerings. Buick has redesigned its entire lineup and Cadillac has the fastest production sedan in the world. To be fair however, your mother's S5 is nice too. Fishes, Narco.

I would be very interested in a B-class 4X4 to rival the BMW X1. It would be the perfect size for my wife as the ML is too big for our daily usage and more costly.

I hope whatever they build will last a long time on the road and makes mercedes a builder of reliable cars! Seriously, isn't funny how an owner of a Lexus and Acura gets more reliability out of their cars while Mercedes, the older, more experienced and more iconic car maker makes cars that some avoid for their reliability issues. Come on Mercedes, please stand by your name in long term quality cars. Paying more for a car should be equal to how long it stays on the road without needing excessive repairs.
