New York village in talks for US GP

Another possible venue for a future United States grand prix has emerged.

After talks for a race in Jersey City reportedly collapsed, it is now suggested that Monticello Motor Club, about two hours from New York City, has been earmarked as a possible alternative.

Autoweek published a letter from the club's president Ari Strauss to members revealing that the club - located in the Town of Thompson in Sullivan County - is in talks with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

The letter also said Strauss met with Ecclestone a few months ago, and that F1 track designer Hermann Tilke has already visited the venue.

Strauss said Tilke "confirmed that our track and surrounding properties, with some expansion and minor track modifications, is an excellent location for a grand prix".

He explained that he is working on securing the "backing and support of local, state, and federal politicians and organisations" and warned that "securing F1 is like winning the Olympics, competition is fierce, and this is not a done deal".

Yeah well my aunties, daughter's, cousin's, father's, adopted brother's, dog walker's, client's, former boss actually owns the Monaco grand prix circuit. AND he keeps three of every model of every car that every sports and racing car maker has ever made. So I'm not saying she isn't hot, just saying I've driven a space shuttle on the track with Lewis Hamilton, Big Bird, and Taylor Swift as my co pilots. So it is kinda exciting to see that it has caught the eye of F1.

I agree with you that?it would be interesting to know what caught the eye of F1, from where I am sitting the track looks good. But I do not understand who it is you are saying isn?t hot cause it doesn?t really apply to my previous comment.

no matter how you look at it it is quite impressive when a car club in a town of 6000-7000 people attracts this type of attention.

If the track is long enough and the elevation changes are what they look like, then it will be a great track compared to the sound stage sadpits that Tilke normally designs and he should not be allowed to mess with the design, only the spectator areas. All the classic tracks follow the natural contours and are far greater challenges, and the TV cameras must fit in where they can. Good luck Monticello MC.
