These days, it's nice to at least be given the option. Dual clutch gearboxes being as good as they are now makes it a no brainer.

mostly I spend my day only for commuter and traffic, so why I bother to push the clutch for every stop. I would want to have one with kind of dual clutch gearbox or even normal 6 or 8 speed automatic will be ok. Remember it is not a Megane Cup or not even the 306 Gti which is semi-hardcore. This new 308 Gti is more about normal Golf Gti than pug Gti in 80s-90s. 123d hatch is pretty quick and capable with same power, more torque and even faster than this one. I am a pug lover but always irritated by their gearbox.

I do get your point, but then again, maybe you're not really the target market for this car. Even if it is just a warm hatch, petrol is still more fun.
Also, the 123d in France starts at 35k?, with less equipment. Would people really cross shop them?

Always the same problem with French (Peugeot/Citroen) cars... The front fascia of the GTi always looks like the regular model...

I got overtaken by a 205 GTI this week -- it looked pristine. That was Peugeot at its best. This doesn't excite me in the slightest. Peugeot's reputation is trashed in this class.

I always thought the 404 and 504 Injection models (both saloons and coup?s) were really Peugeot as their best. The 504 V6 coupe was sublime.

I desperately hope they learn their lesson from the lardy 207 GTi. That was FAR too heavy to be sporting and, like this, looked almost exactly the same as any other high-spec 207/308. For some reason Peugeot-Citroen can't do hot anymore. They've gone in a direction that leads them away from Saxo VTS's and 205 GTIs.
I would bet a tidy sum that this will be mere chewing gum on the shoe of a Megane 250 or Golf GTI. The RCZ isn't a sports coupe to drive, despite albeit enticing appearances, and this won't be either, not compared to the aforementioned and DEFINITELY not when compared to a Focus RS, Mini JCW or Honda Civic Type-R. 7.7 seconds to 60mph is a bad first impression for a hot hatch to make in 2010. (Civic R=6.4, Astra VXR=6.2, Golf GTI=6.7, Megane 250=5.9, Focus RS=5.7)

Well it'd have to compete against the current Subaru Impreza and a few Koreans to get that title.

honestly who would want this car? It's ugly and heavy and big and specs are'nt that great either. Atleast they should call it something else than GTI!!!

It's like slapping a GTI badge on a van... This car as usefull as it can be is for drivers that are already a little dead inside...

I'm an ardent Peugeot-Citroen follower and own one myself, while this for me is a way over-due introduction of the car...the name for me is not spot on, I think Peugeot should only reserved the GTi for the 207 only, the rear roof spoiler should be optional,it doesn't need it (I wouldn't want one) ...interior wise I'd like to think it's better than the Golf GTI, but that's my opinion ...7.7 is really nothing to rave about which is why I think it would generate more noise if was just given another 308 derivative name instead of GTi..they should just leave the sporting to the small cars like the DS3 and 207 ....

three months ago peugeot said it was no goin to make a gti model in one of its ranges, a full on back to its core values in a gti. that theyd make this gti from one of the new reinvented peugeots, changed their minds quick didnt they. they could have at least said that and then brought out a proper gti! this looks useless and its one of the worst models peugeot currently make. http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Peugeot-205/246713/

this design really, really, really doesn't say 'fast' in any way, shape or form. lowering the roof-line would help a tad.
