Limited edition BMW M3 GTS-R rumored following Nurburgring 24hr victory
BMW M3 GTS - 1600

The ultimate M3

With an M3 GT2 winning the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, rumors are suggesting BMW will build a limited edition M3 to celebrate the victory.

M3post is reporting a reliable source, known as Scott26, has told them the car will be called the M3 GTS-R. It will be based on the M3 GTS and feature a matte black paint job, a front spoiler, wider rear fenders, and lightweight alloy wheels. More importantly, the GTS-R will use plenty of carbon fiber components. In addition to the standard carbon fiber roof, other components such as the rear spoiler, hood, and deck lid would also get the fiber treatment to keep weight down.

Under the hood, power will likely be provided by a massaged 4.4-liter V8 with at least 450 PS (331 kW / 444 bhp). Mated to a seven-speed M dual clutch transmission (M-DCT), the GTS-R could potentially be equipped with a KERS regenerative braking / boost system from the 2011 M5.

Wishful thinking? Reality? We'll find out soon enough.

If the M3 GTS won't be available in the USA, it's safe to say that neither will this.

I guess this method of celebration beats the hell out of splashing Cristal all over the press at the podium. Go BMW!!!

Good job M division, Just make it a bit more powerful so I wouldn?t be able to wup its ass in my STI... Modified 2010 M3, killed him a few days back.....lol

Are you serious?.....You bring an under-steering machine into this comparison? If you knew what this car really is about you would recognize that it is sort of like the GT3RS. BTW. You only assume an M3 is modified. 99% M3s are not modified because there is not much for you to modify other then go FI. With an STI its the opposite.

hehe, agreed. Modified STI's and Evo's kicks those poser's cars ass.

Oh please, another special edition blahzay... whatever it is, its another marketing scam, there is no way its gonna be remotely as wide as the m3 gt2, hence its another way of selling you the same m3 with minor technical changes at an extravagant price. Of course if money is no object to you then it would be sensible to splash the cash on this orange m3 or its presumably upscale variant, which at this stage is just a large assumption. I love M cars, save and wait for a proper BMW R8 competitor.

BavarianMS.... Bist du ein muenchner.... If you ever drove a modified STI, you would not call it an under-steering machine (go to youtube and type Ken Block/STI, I do almost the same on the track, I have vids). Sure if you rely on top-gear! But if you own one for yourself and get under the hood like I do, the outcome would be otherwise? And yes I know what the car represents; I own a GT3RS + many more. The modified M3 I am talking about belongs to my friend. It has a full MXP Cat-Back Exhaust System with Cat Delete, and a drop in K&N filter (so 420HP + pick a number say 20?=440!). So don?t tell me 99% nothing, when you are the one assuming? BTW I am speaking out of experience, Ich habe ueber 42 autos und rede kien shies? bin nur gut drauf? ;)

Where were all these ultra-fast STIs and other ricers last weekend at the 24h race at the Ring? I only saw, BMW, Porsche, Audi and Ferrari...

@tom43: Position 25 (class-ranking 4th), 39 (class-ranking 9th) at ranking. Not bad for a car with much less budget and time to create a great setup.

tom43, have you seen any BMW and Ferrari in rallies? I didn't

Are you kidding? Driving an STI is a constant battle for front tire grip. You constantly have to trail break to keep most the weight transfer on the front wheels so they don't keep slipping. For your information, the M3 comes pretty beefed up from the factory and doing exhaust will not get you much at all. Another thing for you to consider is skill. An all wheel drive is much easier to drive at the limits for a not so experienced person then a rear wheel drive. The M3 would win in just about everything minus corner exiting. It takes real skill to be able to master one to its fullest.

"M3post is reporting a reliable source, known as Scott26". This sounds really reliable....lol ;-)

Scott26 has been contributing insider info for 5 or 6 years now with a high degree of accuracy. He's been wrong a few times but the precision and detail of the things he has gotten correct give a lot of credibility.

@BrianWCF: Do you really believe that within 24 hours after the victory anyone even at BMW knows something about a matte-black car called "GTS-R"? One reliable information at the end: the E90 will never see a system called KERS.

I was thinking the exact same thing about KERS. Its is not going to happen. Lets just hope it makes it into the next gen M5.

The GTS-R proposal was already on the table well before the race. The victory only helps the final decision which has yet to be made. However, check the source link in the article and read for yourself Scott26's post which was made before the race.

Cant imagine someone would buy orange, tuned M3 instead of a 911 GT3.

I'd choose the GT3RS over this any day. But compared to the standard GT3, I'd rather this and I would just have it resprayed in blue by a professional.

This car with the ECU and fuel delivery system from the actual race car, a full Akrapovic exhaust system made out of titanium, and a proper tune running on 98octane or 100octane will net around 500hp +- 10hp...STi is a great car, i have seen 500hp ones and they are beastly. BUT you cannot compare a 500hp back yard puzzle of random performance mods put together by some guys with a college degree to an ACTUAL race car designed by guys with PHds and one of the finest R&D centers in the world. I will bet hands down that this GTS-R with those mods i mentioned would eat an STi with the same HP alive around the ring.

Also, you seem to forget who pioneered AWD and dominated the rally circuits for the longest time. Wasn't Subaru or Mitsubishi that's for sure.

Now that I have to see. I hope they keep the GT2 exterior bodykit.

Radmeister... Our daily driving is on the street! And my comment was clear. You deviated to tell me what each car will do on the track... There is no comparison, that's common sense, as one is a track car and the other is not... I am driving a 458 italia right now, and it is no fun to race someone, since I almost know what the outcome is? I picked a 07 STI and tuned it (last model before the hatch back) just to embarrass those who give me a funny look? My friends and business partners laughed at me for driving such a little car, but I put them and their cars in their place?? I just find it funny no more, no less? : )

An m3 is one of the best cars in terms of practicality. Car and driver placed it in 1st between the 911 and the GTR just because of how practical it really was. And no you do not drive a 458 italia. Ask me how I know.
