Chrysler re-considering Nassau, Sebring could survive
Forbes calls the Chrysler Sebring the worst car of 2007

Chrysler still using the Sebring nameplate for its mid-sized sedan offering

Chrysler will be keeping the Sebring name for its mid-sized sedan offering, at least for now, despite speculation that it was going to change the nameplate to Nassau.

The change to Nassau was widely reported on in the press but never made official by Chrysler. Now, a Detroit Bureau source says that "As of last week, the name was still Sebring."

But why the fuss?

Because Chrysler is still strapped for cash and a name change can be costly. Auto industry analysts say that an effective nameplate change in the U.S. market can mean excess marketing costs of $100 million (€79 million) or more to promote the new vehicle as opposed to keeping the same name for a next-generation launch.

Chrysler, now owned by Italian automaker Fiat, is developing a new Sebring sedan on a Fiat platform. The model is set to debut in 2011.

Am I the only one that thinks it odd a dull car basically built for rental companies is named after a racetrack?

I don't think the name matters, as long as they replace the existing car, and make it MUCH, MUCH better!

I agree. The existing car has got to go. But I don't care if they make the replacement as good as an Accord or Camry. It drives me nuts when companies name boring cars after racetracks. I live in Florida and I bet if you ask everyone here what is Sebring, the track is the last thing that'll come to mind.

How about focusing a little more on design instead of worrying about what your going to name the car? Chrysler made a really bad move by approving this abomination. It represents just one of the many reasons I would never consider buying anything from this car company.
