Volkswagen's autonomous vehicle performs reverse power-slide into parking spot [Video]

Volkswagen and academic partners at the Stanford Racing Team have continued to push forward with their autonomous car project, as these videos show.  While, at times, we are pleased we are not standing next to the rubber cones on the road, the ability of this car to "learn" is rather impressive.

The first 30-second video shows a car reversing at about 25 mph, before applying the brakes, giving a quick turn of the steering wheel, and skidding 180-degrees into a parking spot.  Getting the car to accomplish this time and time again involved a complex process of combining the car's own artificial intelligence, and humans teaching the vehicle certain maneuvers.

It was then up to the car to choose which path was best, and determine when to listen to its own sensors, and when to listen to the pre-programmed commands.  Next up: find Sarah Connor.

I think J turn is the more appropriate/common name for such a maneuver

Oh' music classics sold it to me. Lovely clip. However VW as a brand itself is unic one - only carmaker who is able to make me feel a cheap populist while driving one of their cars.
