Porsche 911 GT2 RS first official photos, pricing and details, 620 HP confirmed [Videos]

Only 500 units of the GT2 RS will be produced

Official details and photos have been released on the upcoming Porsche GT2 RS.

Well, we were right about the power wattage - it will indeed be 620 PS (462 kW) - and wrong about the number of units that Porsche will produce - 500 will be made not 300. Weight loss versus the 911 GT2 will be a substantial 70 kg (as opposed to the previously reported 90 kg).

That power rating will make this the most potent Porsche road car in history. And its quite a technical achievement to squeeze all those kilowatts from a 3.6 liter boxer engine, much of it attributable to the two variable turbine geometry turbochargers.

The details:

The car will weigh a mere 3,020 lb (1,370 kilograms), giving it a power to weight ratio of 4.9 lbs (2.21 kg) per horsepower, and rides on 245/35 ZR 19 tires at the front and 325/30 ZR 19 for the rear axle. It will come with anti-roll bars and Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management (PASM).

It's time on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife track: 7 minutes and 18 seconds. 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds), 0 to 200 km/h in just 9.8 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9 seconds. Top speed: 205 mph or 330 km/h.

To shed weight, Porsche makes use of carbon-fiber-reinforced (CFR) components, such as the CFR plastic for the bucket seats.

"GT2 RS" tags are placed on the doors and rear lid to distinguish the car too.

The car will be available in Europe from September 2010, in the USA from October 2010. The Euro base price is €199,500. Including VAT and national specifications/equipment the new 911 GT2 RS will retail in Germany at a price of €237,578.  For the U.S. market pricing starts at $245,000 (€193,000).

The new GT2 RS is set for its first public unveiling on August 25 at the Moscow auto show.

See the press release for full details.

The New Porsche 911 GT2 RS

620 Highly Efficient Turbo-Horsepower: Most Powerful Street-Legal Porsche of all Times

Stuttgart. The time: seven minutes, 18 seconds on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The power: 620 hp. The weight: 1,370 kilograms or 3,021 lb in road trim with all fluids on board. The car: the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The GT2 RS is making its world debut at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th.

The future top GT model marking the absolute climax in the 911 range is the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart. With power up by 90 hp and weight down by 70 kilograms or 154 lb in comparison with the 911 GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.21 kilos or 4.9 lb per horsepower, by far the best power/weight ratio in its class. Obviously, these are the ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance sports car with supreme agility, truly blistering performance on the road, and of course exemplary Porsche Intelligent Performance. For despite this extra power and performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions versus the 911 GT2 are down by approximately 5 per cent to 11.9 ltr/100 km (equal to 23.7 mpg imp) and 284 g/km.

The 3.6 litre six-cylinder boxer engine boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry exclusive to Porsche in its combination with a gasoline engine drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Developed especially for the 911 GT2 RS, sports tyres measuring 325/30 ZR 19 convert this massive power into equally massive performance and acceleration on the road: 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in just 9.8 seconds, and 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9 seconds. Top speed is 330 km/h.

Equally supreme stopping power on this ultra-high-performance sports car comes from PCCB composite ceramic brakes. Appropriate longitudinal and crosswise dynamics are ensured by the sporting RS set-up of the springs, PASM Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, anti-roll bars, as well as the dynamic engine mounts and PSM Porsche Stability Management.

In its looks the new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly from the 911 GT2 above all through the lavish use of carbon-fibre-reinforced (CFR) components in matt-black surface finish, even wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front, new 911 GT2 light-alloy wheels with central locking, as well as "GT2 RS" model designations on the doors and rear lid. The upgraded front spoiler lip and the rear spoiler lip made of CFR and now 10 millimetres or almost 0.4 inches higher, again in surface carbon finish, ensure the right aerodynamic precision as well as extra downforce.

The interior also exudes the flair of sporting performance in virtually every detail, featuring lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in carbon surface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The basic interior colour is black, contrasting attractively with features such as the seat centre sections and the roof lining as well as segments on the steering wheel rim. The gearshift and handbrake lever are both finished in red alcantara.

Limited to just 500 units, the 911 GT2 RS will be available in Europe from September 2010, in the USA from October 2010. The Euro base price is 199,500.- Euro. Including VAT and national specifications/equipment the new 911 GT2 RS will retail in Germany at a price of 237,578 Euro.

you'd have to be mad to spend 240,000 euros and still drive a 911. 458 Italia, LP570 Superleggera these are proper supercars, built in Italy and in mid-engine configuration, they also cost less. Also 7:18 doesn't look as mind boggling as some porsche fan boys said it would look. A car for Porsche fanboys that have more money than sense.

If that time is real it's only 4 sec quicker then the ZR1 that already quicker is then a Zonda, Enzo, Lambo, Mclaren F1. And those are(where) very expensive cars(ok not the ZR1, but that's made in the USA :p) I don't find it that much money for such a fast car.

funny, but I consider LFA to be better value than this. LFA is simply a prototype, that had been designed and developed from the beggining. It's a technological masterpiece with neck breaking performance. GT2 RS is just a 5 year old 911 made more powerful and lighter. You simply get a tuned 911 for a price of 3 Carreras, and it even looks like tuned 911 which are everywhere on the streets - therefore GT2 RS is not something special, it lacks that feeling and if I spend 240.000 on a car I would like to drive something special, not another 911.

lol @ kimbo , so you prefer a slow, ugly, overpriced Toyota over a hardcore 911 ? ok...

First of all LFA is not slow, but extremely fast and it has amazing chassis. Secondly it's a Lexus, not a Toyota. And yes, I would prefer LFA to the GT2 RS, cause it is very very special car (apart from being fantastically engineered piece of machinery). Also I am not a Porsche fanboy just like you (that know very little about cars) so if I had the money to buy LFA I'd get a Carrera GT, but you don't know what I am talking about, cause live in a world where every porsche is awesome and perfect, poor man.

"it's a Lexus, not a Toyota" there goes your credibility...

Here is proof why the LFA is a slow overpriced Toyota... 0-60 in 3.8s for both the LFA and Z06 1/4 mile in 11.8s@123.7mph for the LFA and 11.5s@127.1mph for the Z06 60-0 in 94ft for the LFA and 100ft for the Z06 1.05g's for both the LFA and Z06 And these numbers are with non road legal tires on the LFA... Finally... it was put on a motortrend dyno and it only put out 430.3hp

Dude you have no idea what you are talking about. This is one of the only cars that isn't overpriced at all with what it delivers considering a base GT2 is 200k anyway. You have lost all your credibility as soon as you brought up the LFA that in my opinion should be recalled for teh ugliness.

Some sour lemons must HATE that it is faster then the AGING Corvette and Vipers. American car makers need to focus on handling not just straigh line speed. The corvette and others are SLOW compared to this. Lemon?

lol, the Corvette pulls the same g force in the corner with street tires that the lfa does with race spec non street legal tires. I'm not sour at all about it :) You must be sour that I'm right.

the ZR1 is a bargain, but when you put quality a higher priority than price, I'm pretty sure you gonna go for the Porsche

The 911 GT2 RS right off the showroom floor is faster then the Best Corvette right off the showroom floor. What is what makes you a sour lemon. They just cannot keep up with the Germans 7:18. FASTER

"Only 4 seconds faster than the ZR1". Sorry, but don?t believe in these GM numbers. There is only one independent magazine testing sportscars at the Nordschleife, the "SportAuto". They realized a 7:38min time with a very, very experienced driver. 0-100km/h was 3.6sec, 0-200km/h 11.4sec. The GT3 RS was running a 7:33min time in the same magazine in May 2010. These are the numbers we have to talk about.

There is only one source for Ring valid ring times. They research into validity of the run, track conditions, driver, etc etc etc. I believe the 7min 26.4s run... because I've seen the youtube video of it... http://www.fastestlaps.com/track2.html

Joe lemon where is the faster car from eastern hemisphere? Chevrolet and ford cannot keep up with the big boys
May 12, 2010 8:53 pm
 Joe_Limon Joe_Limon
Big boys? There are about as many ZR1's sold as there are 911's total. This GT2 RS is a very limited edition car, and as such can be compared to the very limited edition North American cars. Cars Such as the SSC Ultimate Aero, or the British bodied and american powerplanted Venom GT. The SSC Ultimate Areo has this 911 beat on all territories. GT2 RS ... SSC 612hp ... 1287hp 3020lb ... 2750lb 0-60 in 3.4s ... 2.78s 205mph ... 257mph Doesn't include luxury items ... includes luxury items such as a Navigation System, 10-Speaker Premium Audio/CD/DVD System, 7.5" Video/DVD Screen, and Automatic Back-Up Camera

7:18?! That's pretty damn quick! The Carrera GT was around 7:25, holding the record for ages. It's close to looking like a tuner job, but I bet it's great in the metal... and sounds fierce!

Yeah, because Porsche know how much we want a pink interior. I think this car is a mental piece of machinery, just a tad too expensive.

The interior is actually red, but the photos have been edited, if you look at the previous one you can see that the tail lights are also off colour.

Before everyone goes into a tailspin about the 0-100 kmh time of 3.5 sec, that's the figure listed in press release, although we are doubtful its true.

I bet it's even faster than they say in the press release. Somewhere around 3.3 sec

The only road legal production car which is a real car (has a roof) and is faster is the gumpert apollo which is also German. This is faster then Corvette and Viper and GTR and Ferrari. Corvette needs to stop concentrating on straight line speed and make their cars handle. Porsche wins!

This little bastard will be the new benchmark. And you know what's so scary? It's the outgoing model. I've said it before, i'll say it again.. Stiggy just pooped his flame retardant racing PJ's. With that said, I still think the LFA is still a pretty cool car, though not much of a looker.

"Overpriced," is all relative! If some of us thought like you we would all be driving corvettes. THe same could be said about anything, take watches for example, why buy a Rolex, if you can buy a Casio?? It does the same thing, tells time! Same with cars. Funny guys bring the LFA into the coversation and compare quarter mile, 0-60, etc... to a vette to justify the cost. In any case bring the 5.0 Mustang GT. It equals the perf. of the e9x M3 for a fraction of the cost!!! Seriously guys, speed isnt'everything, you are buying into exclusive, rare, exotic/supercar, etc... Heck, if you want a fast car, forget about all this just buy a CIVIC and drop 10-15K and you'll have a car that is faster than a Vette!! So what's the point??? Some of you guys have lots to learn about cars before you open your mouth about things!

"Turbo 91," Go check it out yourself, the perf. of the NEW 5.0 Mustang GT is VERY similar to the BMW M3, but do they drive the same, NO! I don't think, I know. Go see for yourself. I was using that as a comparison to why people buy cars that are 2 or 3x more expensive than a corvette with the same if not worse perf. LEARN to read between the lines!

@BavarianMS your 100% right, if your spending money to buy the base GT2 you might as well spend a few extra bucks and snag a juiced up version of it. That is also if your willing to spend over $200,000
