Consumer Reports removes Lexus SUV 'Don't Buy' rating - satisfied with fix [Video]

Consumer Reports magazine prompted a recall of 9,400 Lexus GX 460 models sold in the US last month. The influential publication had rated the SUV as a "Don't Buy" after testing it and finding its ESP to be grossly inadequate. Lexus has since supplied a software fix for the problem and made it available to dealerships nationwide.

A new, more favourable rating has now been issued after Consumer Reports anonymously had its GX 460 fixed. New tests were conducted and the results were enough to change the previous overwhelmingly negative rating.

However, two of its competitors are still being recommended above the big Lexus. "Overall, there are better choices if you're looking for a seven-passenger SUV," said the magazine, "including the Acura MDX and Buick Enclave."

Watch the before and after video of the test.

You've mistaken Toyota for GM, Ford and Chrysler. They're the ones who cut engineering corners and cover it with money. They've found that method to be cheaper than actual thorough engineering.

Every Toyota recall related article on this website is full of lunatics making comment's about how GM is behind this whole mess. I can only imagine what is going through their heads; some powerful supervillian that looks like DR Evil is sitting in his desk in Detroit laughing while his miniature clone is out sabotaging Toyotas and Lexus's all day. Really people!! Most poeple know that nobody is at fault but Toyota on this. It is well known that Japanese executives conduct business like it's war, take no prisoners and all is fair. When GM was down they took no mercy in the PR department, reeling in customers left and right. Turn about is fair play, if GM gets any boost from all this, good riddance! Ride the good luck while it lasts.

Enclave and MDX are crossovers, the GX/Prado are real body-on-frame SUV's. But I guess Cosumer Reports readers don't have IQ's high enough to understand that.

Too bad you even need all these electronic nannies, but there are so many poor drivers. It is amazing that driver ed classes do not go through emergenies in cars, i.e. correcting overstear, understear, brake failure, blowouts etc.

fully agree! video even states: "[VSC] is not a substitute for safe driving practices. People now are relying on this gadgetry so they can do other things while driving.

If everytime GM, Ford or Chrysler made a blunder on wheel discovery about one of their fine automobiles there wont be anything on the news but their moronathons. This is just a long awaited public backlash to a what seem until now the infalliable Toyota.
