Porsche 911 GT2 RS up close
2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

We get a look at the new carbon bonnet and Alcantara interior

Here is a new and better look at the upcoming Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

We can spot in these photos the new carbon bonnet and side intakes, we also get a peek inside the Alcantara interior. Is that a roll cage bar near we see?

The 911 GT2 RS is a stripped-down race version of the already powerful GT2 (550 PS / 405 kW), likely featuring a roll cage and active suspension, and will come with 620 hp (462 kW) according to reports. It will weigh about 90 kg less than the 997.1 iteration GT2. Limited to 300 units, the GT2 RS makes the 0 to 100 km/h run in 3.2 seconds.

Expect more details when the car makes its debut on May 14. Price is said to be around €240,000 ($317,000).

Wow...impressive numbers... truly impressed. But why are they not improving their Body Styling...it still looks like a supercharged Frog to me...

Ridiculous, I'd rather be in a NATURALLY ASPIRATED Italian supercar if I'm paying that much....

hmm. interesting is how good will this car be. 458 scuderia competitor maybe or not if it kills the driver instead

Damn. The ultimate 911. If they ever make a 997 Turbo S, that's the one I'll be wanting.

Frankly I would much rather the 458 Italia over this. The only Porsche I would get if I could is the new GT3RS.

A carbon fibre bonnet? Hmm, it looks good on a grey car, but the wrong choice of colour could easily make this bruiser look a bit daft. I also wouldn't mind just a little bit less red on the inside. The scarlet alcantara on the centre console (just behind the handbrake) is one detail too far. I like the bigger chin spoiler though, and that they didn't put stickers all over it. Still, that's all trivial when it comes to a hardcore version of the most dangerous 911 ever (with the electro-nannies switched off at least). Only for the very talented. And rich, obviously.

For cars with this level of perf, the 0-100 value does not mean much anymore... they are so close to each other. Second point, I see here an easy way to get more cash out of a already known product... collector they call that... if you think a Turbo delivers nearly 540 HP for an official 500. Is it really so hard to make this GT2RS ? I'd take a GT3 RS over this and leave the GT2 RS for those who do not know what to do with their $$

0-100 value isn't everything , but in this case it's remarkable because it's a manual transmission in an age where everyone is making dual clutch gearboxes. as for the money, i'm sure every GT2 RS owner already has several other Porsches.

This will be as fast as the 599GTO for 1/3 of the price. Best of his class, bye bye Italia, LP570-4 SL, SLS, MP 4-12(?), and this will be hardcore to drive, probably the purest car to drive from the bunch...

this is an awesome car, but comparing it to the 599 gto... don't get ahead of yourself.

@ jerry Off-course it will beat-it, 599gto 1600kg-700hp / 911gt2RS 1390kg-620hp. It will destroy it on a long track like the Ring...

the 911 always competes successfully against cars with higher power, in this case the 599GTO has only 50 more hp , but is a lot heavier. not to mention the torque and grip advantage the GT2 has. the GTO will likely have a higher top speed, but on a track it will surely lose against the GT2 RS.

you'd have to be dumb ass to buy a 240.000 euro tuned beetle. Don't get me wrong, the GT3 nad Turbo are great cars, but this thing, along with standard GT2, is ridiculously overpriced. I can't imagine someone would buy that rather than a technological masterpiece such as 458 Italia, which is a proper mid-engined supercar from Italy, LP560 and LP570 are great as well, and together with Ferrari cheaper than the GT2.

LOL @ Kimbo Just shows exactly how much you know about cars. You obviously have no idea what this car is about. A normal 997 GT2 that has 530hp is priced at 200k+. This is a much more powerful and further tuned car that will set records.

@ kimbo , the 458 and Gallardo are also less powerful and they are mid engined cars from Italy, which isn't a good thing, they tend to go up in flames a lot. the GT2 RS is a true original, a proper old school mechanical masterpiece with the engine in the back, a real driver's car, not like the Italian posermobiles.

@ BavarianMS I know what this car is about - it's about exchanging few parts on the GT3 RS, tuning the engine and then selling it with 2x bigger price tag, greatest rip off world have ever seen. Well done Porsche! @ scratchy. You obviously havent's driven any "posermobile" so leave any discussion about that. I know what GT2 can do, it's a great car, but you won't tell me it's worth it's price compared to the GT3 and even GT3 RS.

Kimbo you should stick to repeating Jeremy Clarkson's opinions and stop trying to come up with any of your own. You are embarrassing yourself!

0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds with a proper manual , Porsche rules. i'm sure tests will reach sub 3 seconds times in good conditions.
