Buick confirm three new vehicles by 2012
Buick Regal GS Show Car - 07.01.2009

New vehicles include a compact, a small crossover and the upcoming Buick Regal model

Now that GM is done with its bankruptcy and restructuring woes and its sales are on the rebound, the Detroit automaker is aiming high again with the Buick brand.

Buick has announced it will be adding three new models to its vehicle lineup by 2012 including a compact (spied as the Excelle) and a small crossover due by 2012. GM's near-premium brand will also be delivering its new Buick Regal later this year despite a previous anouncement of Q2 2010.

The brand has seen a resurgence in sales, like the industry as a whole, with a 36.4 percent increase last month (April). Buick sales of its full-sized sedan, the LaCrosse, are up 214 percent this year. More importantly for GM's bottom line, the current model is selling for $8,000 (€6,200) or $9,000 (€7,000) more than its predecessor.

Also part of the brand's re-invention will be the targeting of a new set of consumers - focusing on grass-roots marketing campaigns and looking for new Buick buyers at places such as Starbucks, Whole Foods and Ikea. The brand will lose its trim-level designations too - CX, CXL and CXS. Instead, Buick will simply be offering options packages like other premium brands.

"(Trim levels) imply there is a hierarchy of the premium vehicle," said Craig Bierley, director of advertising and sales promotion at Buick GMC.

Great to see GM doing something properly. If I had to invest in an up-and-coming company, I'd put my money one Buick or Hyundai.

Buick isnt sold in my country so i dont know, but looking at their products they seem to be aiming at middle aged people and the people who go to Ikea and Starbucks are a bit younger than that in my country...

The couple new Buick models are really good on the eye especially for younger audience, which they were lacking before.

The Crossover is a Subcompact with competitors such as Next gen Accent, Honda Fit, and Nissan Juke. Yes, it will not only be based off Aveo, but it will be built at the same GM Orion Township Michigan Plant too. http://www.accentplanet.org/2010/05/accenti20-competitors-buick-plays.html I like the Bule Plastic, its Buick thing, its unique, and it makes the Buick look nice I think.

GM re-vamped Cadillac into a much younger company and it's worked well. I guess they are trying to do the same with Buick. Which is a goodthing since the typical Buick buyer demographic is a shrinking one...due to nature...they can't live forever... But the tasteless joke aside...the Buick brand is kind of special for the older people here...after the war the Americans brought over their cars for use while stationed here and the Buicks were really coveted because they were nice cars. Perhaps they should think about playing with their heritage a bit more in their marketing as while foraging into the vacant spot left by Saturn.
