Porsche 911 GT2 RS breaks out early

Photo leaked from dealer event - 911 GT2 RS is expected to come with 620 hp (462 kW)

Here is a shot of the upcoming Porsche 911 GT2 RS taken at a dealer event and leaked to the press along with a few details. Kudos go to Autoblog and Teamspeed for this scoop.

The 911 GT2 RS will be a true racer built for making remarkable track times. It will likely feature a roll cage and an active suspension and perhaps some adjustable aerodynamics too.

As for power rating, we can only guess that the RS will come with a significant power boost over the upcoming 2012 GT2, which will feature around 550 PS (405 kW). Teamspeed is reporting the figure at 620 hp (462 kW) and that the car will weigh 90 kg less than 997.1 GT2. The 0-100 km/h sprint will clock in at 3.2 seconds. The GT2 RS series will be limited to 300 units.

Full details on the 911 GT2 RS will be made available when Porsche officially introduces the car on May 14.

According to the Autoblog source, the car will cost €240,000 ($317,000).

The nissan GT-R and this are not in the same league. Till now there is no car yet to be made that will make Nissan shut up.. The Porsche might have better figures but with a price tag which is four times more its not a good comparison

@ RashidMM Your right, but this is also faster then a Enzo and Zonda which also cost 2 a 3 times the Porsche price. Respect for the GTR, but this is something very special and there's nothing to compare between those cars...

can someone tell me the secret to the gtr?? it weighs some 1700 has a 480 hp engine but still manages 0-100km in 3.5sec?? anyway thats besides the point, This porsche rocks, id love to own one..... certainly over a crazy priced lfa toyota thats not even faster than a 700000 nissan

@ jolz24 , the GT-R accelerates fast to 100km/h because of its gearbox settings, but it's slow beyond 100km/h. Nissan GT-R 0-300km/h : 53.3 seconds. 911 turbo 0-300km/h : 40.7 seconds.

The GT-R has one of the fanciest transmissions in history. Combined with the highest number of sensors and most powerful computer in a production car. Basically the GT-R has the ability to go Kamikaze, when you use launch control in the first launch the car goes into learning mode, the transmission and sensors on the 4wd system end up acting like a Dyno, the car records all that data. Then on the second launch it's like you had your car dyno tuned specifically for that surface, air temp, everything. If you take it out of the dealership and do a launch it won't be very fast as it wont have any data to tune the launch. It is truly an amazing system, only problem is that it appears that it has so much control over the car's inner workings that it pushes components beyond their intended stress ratings, and well do 10 launches and you'll need a new 24,000$ transmission. True Japanese style, Kamikaze!

What a ride. Factory tested intimidating excess. Scary ass ride, better not take anything in life 4 granted, may become the last ride one ever pushes. Although there's a lot to get out of the driving that machine. Still I think I'll stick to gran tourers today, I'm too scared to even imagine having one. Oh that Mercedes E-class, swell ride no?

620bhp in a car with the engine at the back and rear wheel drive? How on earth do you go round a corner without leaving a mess in your underwear?!

I highly doubt it, considering that the Gumpert did not, and there is no way that this is better than the Gumpert.

I will build the spiritual successor to the 959, I come on, they have all the hardware, parts and the technology to take on the SLS.

You know what the sad thing is? When you actually do have the money to buy this beast, you want it so badly you already have the money set aside...and yet there is a part of you that realises that it is a far better car than you are a driver...it demands more than you can give...and that it has about as much forgiveness as rabid pit bull terrier whom you?ve just kicked in the balls and set its arse on fire. I?ll scab a drive in this, but will restrict myself to owningnice 4wd sports cars that mask the fact that when it comes to true driving skill, I am to Schumacher (in his prime, not now!) as a piece of rancid dog turd is to a rose...

Sad but true. At the end of the day there's no point in having a car that you're not good enough to take to the limit. That said, I would go with either a DBS or a LP560 at this price range.

GT2 have always been a beast. That's the kind of specs this car deserves. Don't like Porsches but got to love the GT2 and the amazing Carrera GT. One word, this thing is explosive fast.

Be the first to have this info WCF. This is from a member at Teamspeed.com "I'VE SEEN IT. ok, so not in person, but have just seen detailed photos of the Leipzig car, taken during the launch. unfortunately, i cannot post them out of respect to my source. i WILL say that i'm not a huge fan of the particular spec (aesthetically speaking), as it looks a bit "ricey". here's what it looks like (just so you know i'm not making this up, when the pictures ARE finally posted here by somebody else) - car is silver with the hood in naked carbon fiber - lower splitter also in carbon. the "vortex generators" (to borrow Mitsubishi's term for those "teeth" like looking protrusions) are more clearly seen than in the early spy shots. the horizontal slats along the air intakes are in naked carbon also. - lower part of the rear bumper is in black, as are the side mirrors - the interior trim is kinda ugly on the launch car. all black alcantara, with CGT seats... but the shift knob, door handles, door armrests, handbrake handle, center console compartment cover, and much of the steering wheel are covered in RED alcantara. a bit too tuner-ish to me, but i'm sure you can spec yours as you like - there's a small "GT2RS" script just behind the front wheel well, along the lower sill. not shouting like the GT3RS side decals or other typical Porsche side decal treatment - wheels are in gold with black centerlocks way to go Porsche... great send-off to the Metzger engine! and its good to see them breaking their "incremental HP improvement" mantra of the last decade!!!" Also, there will be NO standard GT2, and this is the last of the face lifted 911 models. Another website also quoted that the 911 GT2 RS will manage 6:58 on the ring with racing slicks.

We need a match GT2RS, ZR1, LP670SV, 599GTO,... i don't think in a straight line the GT2 could be beaten and i hope in the corners neigther...
May 4, 2010 5:22 am

maybe in a straight line cannot win...if you know that GT2 is slower than 599 than this GT2 RS could follow 599 GTO, maybe even ZR1 will have problem escaping :D Lambo definately will jum from start and then in high speed will start to loose from all mentioned here!
