New 2012 VW Polo / Vento sedan sketches surface
Hatch hating Americans rejoice
New design sketches of the 2012 Volkswagen Vento (aka Polo sedan) have surfaced on the web.
Essentially a Polo with a trunk instead of a hatch, the Vento will likely ride on a 50mm longer wheelbase (than the Polo). While this is a minor change, the additional length will allow for increased rear seat head and legroom.
Engine options will likely include a 1.2-liter TSI, a 1.6-liter TDI, and naturally-aspirated 1.2- and 1.4-liter units. They will be backed up by a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual, and a 7-speed DSG.
The Vento will go on sale in India in July, so expect an unveiling shortly.

The jetta was briefly called vento in Europe, so why use the same name on a car that is in a smaller class? Looks good though.

Because people will associate something smaller and cheaper with something that cost more and was larger.

I think its time VW moves on and try some new styling ideas instead of the same old boring designs...

Don't listen him VW :P This looks great. Actually a bit reminds me to the previous EU-Market Ford Focus and Opel Vectra B. I loved both cars. :)

The new Vento (Polo sedan) will have comparable wheelbase and width with the old one (Golf sedan), but also an increased height. Instead, as far as length is concerned, the new one will be not more than 10 cm shorter than the old one. So it will be a small difference between them. Instead, current Jetta is 17 cm longer than the old Vento.

What you're seeing here is the Polo model that will be coming to the USA, probably in 2011 as a 2012 model. My guess is that it will be built at VW's assembly line in Puebla, Mexico, the same line that builds many Golf and Jetta models for the US market.
