This car does need a good interior, badly.

That interior is awful. GM should start taking some design cues from the europeans...

Some GM interiors look pretty good, and not all European cars have great interiors. In many ways German cars have lost touch with understatement and the form-follows-function ethos. With the exception of Audi (and its grill), they're over-styled. Like the Charger, the Camaro is too trendy. It may look cool now, but it will look like a charicature in a few years. it will need more than a new dash by then.

It doesn't matter what new funky design they come out with. The current interior design wise is not bad, it's the execution of the design that is poor. Crappy materials and assembly. They should fix those two problems.

With 556 horsepower on tap, I would not care if the car had rusted bare metal for an interior. I would call it "patina" and put my pinky in the air as I said it. Last thing American cars need is help from european designers. We can make a show out of it.... we will call it "European eye for a straight car guy!"

Yep that's why GM is doing so well sales wise, same with Chrysler. Toyota even with the whole scandal is still outselling GM and Chrysler. One thing you have to realize times are changing, your generation is dying and along with them their mentality. It's called evolution, it happens in everything from as small as microbes to airplanes. Remember back in the day when cellphones used to be the size of cinder block and they used to have 1 function, phone people. Now nothing we buy has 1 function, it has multiple functions, and because of our high paced society that is now more global through the internet people tend to look at a much larger picture with multiple choices. I see the US auto industry like those old cellphones, focusing on 1 thing big fuel hungry engines with high horsepower. Meanwhile the europeans are pumping out iPhones. Reality is simple, you are not going to use that 556hp as often as you are going to use your interior. If all you care about is HP then buy a John Deer Combine with a 1000hp Cummins diesel.

Also you know what's funny, the Corvette the pinnacle of detroit power is so amazing that it gets outsold by Gallardos which are 3x the price. The ZR-1 gets outsold by Murcielagos, even though spec wise it is a faster car, and costs 1/4 the price. But i guess those europeans don't know what they are doing, if they can sell a slower car for 4x the price...Somehow they managed to create a more desirable car. And it's simple when i look at a ZR-1 beside a Murcielago, or i sit in it in comparison it is a tractor, not even a fancy one, something you would buy at Walmart for mowing your lawn. Sure it has a great engine, but that's it. And it appears that that is not enough anymore.

Radmeister, you might want to check your numbers, monthly Toyota sells about 80,000 vehicles in the usa, Chrysler about 90,000, gm about 130,000.

USA might be the biggest market in ONE country currently, BUT one must look globally where all the brands are sold. Toyota outsells GM and Chrysler globally.

Radmeister, we are talking about a car sold mainly in north america... therefore let us use north american sales numbers.

Yeah and Joe, the USA is not the entire world.

 Joe_Limon Joe_Limon
I understand that, but this car isn't sold to the entire world... we are talking about creating an interior to dominate a specific market, and for the price point this interior is still allowing this car to dominate.

Sorry i was under the impression that the Camaro was sold in europe, and soon asia.

Also it is not dominating anything. The mustang still outsells the camaro by a long shot.

Wow, radmeister, now I understand... you're just full of s--t. Check out the last 9 months sales figures, the Camaro has been outselling the Mustang. This is the first time since 1993 that it has been doing so. And though the US is the SECOND biggest car market in the world (after China since 2009), it is still large enough for cars to be made specifically for its market alone, just like the Chinese. There are TONS of China-only cars out there, how come you're not blowing a gasket about that?

The biggest problem by a mile, is that the current dash does not support a sat-nav screen.
April 30, 2010 1:17 pm
 radmeister radmeister
It "could" support it if they removed the radio/climate control unit and put a 7" touch screen that took over all those functions. But that's too techy for a tractor.

I could argue all day with you on this, recalling facts, and reports and stuff but to be honest, arguing on the internet is time consuming and gets you nowhere. So.. I'm going to do the mature thing, and resort to insulting you personally. So radmeister my generation is dying!!!! I'm only six years older than you, but you are almost correct about the generation thing. You see when I was 6 I could have been your daddy, but your mom didn't have change for a $5, she did however think my tractor was sexy!!!

The biggest problem by a MILE is the Dash looks FUGLY, Crude and poorly put together.

Yeah you may only be 6 years older than me, but being a degenerate such as yourself your lifespan is much shorter than mine. Silly fool, can't even reply to the proper comment.

This is what I do and dont like about the camaro. 1) love the body, yet dislike the rear end. Dislike the coffin shaped windows , dislike the many blind spots, Dislike the v-6 engine. Like the good gas mileage, but the motor is underpowered and sounds to feminine when the acelerator is pushed down. the contols are not east to use unless you spend a lot of time playing with them and know exactly how you want them set. The steering wheel is too big. the seats are sitting down in a bucket. The Mustang wins hands down on so many levels over this car.

There are too many USA-bashers on this website. The fact of the matter is that if the US opened its borders tomorrow, half the world would rush here--I don't beleve that would happen in India, China, or Russia. As for the Camaro's interior, yes it stinks and needs an upgrade.

If every first world country opened it's doors over night US would be the last one id move to...Not even in my top 10. You don't hear the Swiss talking as much smack as the Americans, or any other 1st world country that is in many ways better than the US, the US has it's power from a large population with a high standard of life which came to be by profiting from WW2. People forget how great the USA was during the great depression...I see the majority of Americans as self horn touting blindly patriotic clowns. They believe with all their hearts whatever reality is put up on the TV to the point where they ignore the world around them and the reality of where they stand. Much like this car, oh it doesn't have to compete with anything, it is an american legend, an icon of muscle...Yeah ok there buddy, everything has to compete for survival it's part of life. But it doesn't matter there are enough people out there blind enough to make this car sell, same ones that would have voted for Bush again if they could.

Geez, radmeister, you really do have your panties in a bunch. The US is not a perfect country by any means, but it is still pretty great... otherwise you wouldn't have such an inferiority complex about it. No, the Swiss aren't talking smack... but their population is declining, they decided to ban minarets after FOUR went up, and they don't have an auto industry. The US is the ONLY first world country whose population is expected to go up in the next 50 years (est. to 400 mil)... and yes, this is part of America's greatness cuz new people bring new ideas and a vigor to succeed. Furthermore, the US is big enough, and has an automobile history old enough, that it can produce cars like the Camaro solely for domestic consumption and still be OK. It's main competition is, and has always been, the Ford Mustang.

Well done and is a good effort from the GM boys in Michigan. However, it would be better if they let the boys from Opel to get their hands on the next Camaro. They could do wonders with the interior quality, ergonomics, assembly, fuel consumption, and Nurburgring.

I like the exterior but the interior and one other thing would keep me from buying it. They are fixing the interior but the other thing is that the government took this company from the investors and it is now 61% government owned. Also don't believe what you see about them repaying their govt loan. They took money from a Govt established escrow account and payed the loan. It would be like moving $1,000 from your savings account to your checking account and then claiming you made $1,000. So where is this honest administration and company we were promised?
May 1, 2010 11:59 am

It's called playing with your figures in order to artificially increase stock prices. As it stands the only way the govt can make their money back is be artificially inflating GM stocks and selling them, because lets face it selling cars obviously isn't working if this is what they come to the market with...Where is that Volt they promised? That 40,000$ battery powered Cobalt?

Its a chevrolet. Doesnt even come close to a european auto., Even a used one in the same price bracket from Europe is better. sour lemon?

The Camaro does look nice but that's it. As for jealousy, let me tell you that no one hates on Americans, specially their cars as they still have to live up to expectation. Is there a complete American made car??? No!!! Either powerful engine, or looks. Show me a car with proper suspension or nice non-plastic interior!!!! What! Top of the line Corvette (Z06-ZR1) hmmmm what else....... Nothing!!! Stop dumping on others in here if you?re the one standing next to a dumpster!!!
