Porsche recalls Panameras for seat belt defect
Toyota has finally made something sexy
Toyota has finally made something sexy - recalls.
While this is a bold statement, the mainstream media is now obsessed with every single recall. Case in point, Bloomberg is reporting that Porsche has announced a recall of the 2010 Panamera for a "theoretical problem with the safety belts."
Porsche discovered, in internal testing, that accelerating and reversing repeatedly could cause the seat belt to release. The 11,324 Panameras will be fixed when they are taken to a dealership for scheduled maintenance.
Big headlines for minor recalls, thanks Toyota.

Michael Gauthier, i like wcf, but what i don't like are the stupid jokes which are not in anyway funny. Toyota did screw up but they are not the only car manufacture in the world which did screw up. Hope porsche fix the problem

yeah, but Toyota tried to cover it all up and lied about it even after people died. for this Toyota deserves all the mockery they get.

I agree 100% with lfa...this is NOT Toyota's fault, and it shouldn't even be joked about like that...You should be making fun of the MEDIA for blowing all of this recall stuff way out of proportion...

"You should be making fun of the MEDIA for blowing all of this recall stuff way out of proportion..."
That's precisely the aim of Michael's article, however, at Toyota's expense.

My thoughts exactly Brian. The joke is not really that hard to understand, yet so many readers have missed it...

Yeah i agree with both of you, enough making all these jokes about toyota, even Bentley had recalls in 05 and 07

This isn't your average recall. Not only did they fail to fix and initially admit to the problem, but they also delayed in revealing the issue and from this, deaths have resulted.
BTW...have anyone driven a toyota recently? i don't believe some people call that quality. You can actually move those plastic aircon switches from side to side, when they are only suppose to turn.
I have never been in a Tata or even seen a Tata car, but I'm quite sure in terms quality and design, toyota's aren't that much better.
As with Japanese tradition, I think the toyota CEO should either hang himself or gut himself. Either one would do.

Making the general population more aware of the recall system is good for many reasons not least for safety, but the media reporting on every little thing like its going to kill everyone who even looks at a vehicle is just ridiculous and at the end of the day, very annoying.

Thanx for backing me up quick123. I am very dissapointed with toyota, but they made a mistake, fixed it and even paid the price for it. Every1 makes mistakes.

No was was hurt or died, porsche is the one that discovered the problem. Much better system then Toyota - let people die then lie and fix some of the problems then lie again

FYI, Toyota did know that drivers were complaining about unintended acceleration...but do you have any idea how hard it is to diagnose that problem without any check engine lights or broken parts???????

quick123, do you really believe that? Manufacturers don't need MIL to correctly scan their own proprietary systems. Toyota could (and did) easily pinpoint its Electronic Throttle Actuator problems with a simple component output test run from their very own TIS Techstream scan-tool. Every manufacturer has recalls, EVERY YEAR! Toyota is no exception. They did, however, deny the existince of said problem... Although, their biggest flaw, in my book, was the poor handling of the media circus that ensued.

Because Volkswagen hasnt cut their costs enough yet. A German has to paid more then a Japanese automaker, its the way it is, people in Germany make more money. So Volkswagens cost more. They are starting to cut costs on a lot of cars though other ways

For the same reason why there are more people that make under 50k/year than there are that make 100k/year. Different classes and markets, Toyota is not the best selling brand in the premium segment(including lexus). The Germans excel at producing premium vehicles, toyota produces either german knock-offs(lexus) or middle class vehicles. And since there are more middle class people then they sell more, even i would buy a Corolla over a CityJetta. If i had more money id ignore the Corolla and go for a nice TDI Jetta, but 16k vs. 28k big enough difference to separate into different classes.

LOL ALL cars have this problem, it is the way seatbelts are actuated, if you accelerate then brake very hard the seatbelt will engage, then if you accelerate hard again it will disengage. It is actuated by a moving piece that when the car slows down too fast it slides forward and locks the seatbelt, then when it accelerates forward again the piece slides back and unlocks the belt....I guess porsche must have designed a new system and want to put it in.

Porsche's problem is with the belt latching mechanism fastening but not securing. You describe common pre-tensioner/inertia-reel assembly locking & unlocking...on the opposite side of the seatbelt assembly...

Why are people crying about making jokes? When did that become unacceptable? This is a car forum, quit taking yourself so seriously. Some of you guys clearly don't know what sarcasm is. The lamest part is that Toyota isn't even the subject of the joke.
