TVR confirms Corvette engine for new roadster, hybrid concept also planned
TVR Tuscan Convertible

Will likely boast 505 hp

New details have emerged about the next-generation TVR.

In an interview with Autocar, TVR's owner, Nikolai Smolenski, said the car will use a Corvette engine to save on homologation and development costs. As he explained, "We looked at every engine available - including making our own - and decided that the Corvette was the most powerful off-the-shelf design going. Fitting it to our chassis allows us to meet all current regulations and is not too big a step." While he didn't specify which engine would be used, the Corvette has a 430 hp (321 kW / 436 PS) LS3 V8, a 505 hp (377 kW / 512 PS) LS7 V8, and a 638 hp (476 kW / 647 PS) supercharged LS9 V8.

The new car will be a convertible with styling inspired by the Tuscan. It will ride on a steel chassis (with a fully-independent suspension) and be priced against the Corvette.

Further down the road, TVR will likely introduce a hybrid concept. According to Smolenski, "I always wanted an automatic model, but the chassis wouldn't allow either a regular auto or an automated manual. The hybrid concept would allow us to kick out the conventional gearbox completely."

He always wanted an automatic model??? It's a TVR man! I think they should stick to the manual gear box.

I would buy either a typhon or Sagaris, i love and like both of them and be a wicked weekend car to travel around it. Hope they make the Typhon or Sagaris again with silimar engines to what they had in them

What happened to putting rediculous 400bhp inline sixes in TVR's? Now there shoping at the lowest bidder for their engine, very sad.

By installing an inexpensive V8 of American origins they're actually maintaining a tradition that was started in the 60s or 70s.

yes davis. but given their power to displacement ratio, GM (american engines) are pathetic. i really (and i think im not the only one) like current TVR engines. 4.0 l with powers 350-400. maybe a would like a vette engine in a tvr. and to be more specific, the supercharged v8 from the zr1, but tuned to 700-720 bhp, and a sequential box.. a hardcore version of a sagaris or smthing like that. kinda like the speed12. get me?

As long as it has a manualgearbox not too much can go wrong.
