Audi RS5 confirmed for U.S.

 Audi RS5 confirmed for U.S.

Audi fans in North America have a reason to rejoice, as the German automaker plans to sell the Audi RS5 in the U.S. and Canada.  The car will be sold in Europe beginning in June, with North American deliveries set to begin by the end of September 2011, a Quattro GmbH source told Inside Line.

Based on RS5 pricing of €65,300 in Germany showing about 32.5% over the Audi S5 retail price Inside Line estimates US pricing could be at $69,000, when looking at the MSRP for the S5.

However, look for North American pricing to be more on the high side.  The RS5 is not expected to sell well in the U.S., so the company may only bring cars over with a large amount of optional equipment.  Inside Line reports this could include "the rear-axle sport differential, Dynamic Ride Control software upgrades, and possibly the chromed thundering Boysen sport exhaust."

With the equipment, Inside Line predicts a pre-tax price point of about $75k.  Taking inflation and other financial concerns into account, we could see this figure easily over $78k.

Nope. I meant September 2011. They did not say why the one year delay.

U.S homologation/certification and many other legal processes are typically the reason for delay.

The delay is so they can sell the S5 this year with the V8. In 2011 they will switch the S5 to the V6 to distinguish it from the RS5. I don't think there was enough time to certify the RS5 for 2010, so they kept the V8 in the S5. I had planned to buy an S5 this fall with the V6 and DSG, but I can wait a year.

I was told by an Audi Official in February that the S5 will have the 4.2 V8 for at least another 2 years

This is well worth the wait, no complaints here. It was always a question weather it would even be available in the US and it will be. Thank you Audi.

Think I'd rather have a 6-speed M3+pocket change over this.

I would put up my $$ for this car over the M3 even if the car looks half the brute in person vs photos. It's the closest there is to an m3 competitor and quite likely will offer better performance, better finishing and be a rarer bird. It is a convincing, very high performance GT/track-star.

Car was already reviewed by EVO mag, in short they say it was a "disappointment!" IMO, I'll take the M3 over this too, only reason why you'll get the RS5 is all wheel drive, and of course rarity. Other than that I don't find any Audi cars worth the admission aside from the R8. I really don't see the hype period with Audi. Just my opinion.

Ferrariguy... U said it Audi=R8. Other than that I don't think audi deserves the hype they have been getting the past 5 years. Prior to that noone ever wanted one...
