MINI JCW World Championship 50 Edition confirmed for U.S.
MINI JCW World Championship 50 limited edition - 1600 - 15.04.2010

Priced at a staggering $40,300

MINI has announced plans to offer the John Cooper Works (JCW) World Championship 50 Edition in the United States.

Introduced in 2009, as a tribute to MINI's 50th anniversary, the World Championship 50 Edition features exclusive Connaught Green paint, Pepper White stripes, an aerodynamic body kit, and black 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin boasts leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim, red accent stitching (on the floormats, shifter, and parking brake), and John Cooper Works' signature on a dash-mounted plaque.

Like the standard JCW Hardtop, power comes from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque.

Only fifty cars will be imported and they will be priced from $40,300 (including destination and handling charges). This means the World Championship 50 Edition will cost as much as a fully-load Audi A3 or a nicely-equipped BMW 135i Coupe.

MINI Confirms the John Cooper Works World Championship 50 Edition Will be Sold in the U.S.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - April 14, 2010... In response to high dealer demand, MINI USA will offer a limited number of the MINI John Cooper Works World Championship 50 special edition vehicles in the US. 50 of the hand-built vehicles will be delivered to US dealers, beginning late spring / early summer.

The special edition model was first shown to the public during the 2009 MINI United Festival in Silverstone, England. The worldwide production run has been confirmed for just 250 vehicles.

Inspired and influenced by John Cooper's son, Mike Cooper, the limited MINI special edition is a tribute to both the birth of the brand and John Cooper's first Formula One title victory 50 years ago. Both were revolutionary and triumphant: in the summer of 1959 Alec Issigonis presented his concept for an all-new small car, with its transverse-mounted front four-cylinder engine, and space for four occupants plus luggage. That same year, sports car constructor John Cooper won his first Formula One World Championship title with Jack Brabham at the wheel.

Based on a MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop, the World Championship 50 vehicle is painted a special color called Connaught Green, harking back to the famous color of British race cars of the 1950s and 60s era. It is combined with the roof and bonnet stripes in Pepper White. The vehicle is then equipped with the John Cooper Works Aero Kit, gloss black versions of the 17" Challenge spoke wheels, custom numbered side scuttles, a unique Championship Red Lounge Leather interior and carbon fiber accents throughout. It also features special floormats with red stitching that matches the red stitching found on the shifter and parking brake boots. John Cooper Works' signature adorns a special plaque that is affixed to the instrument panel trim.

MSRP for the MINI John Cooper Works World Champion 50 Edition will be $39,600; Destination and Handling costs are $700, for a total cost of $40,300.

indeed, the 135i is my dream car and I love the look of the coupe. @p2c you're a real victim of fashion! I'm all for some cosmetic touches, but that's all this Mini has, at an insane price tag. Anyone who buys this is indeed a victim too, unless they're so well off they couldn't be bothered pissing money into the wind.

It is a nice special edition MINI but I'll have the nicely-equipped BMW 135i Coupe instead.

That edition was absurd enough for Europe and now US is getting its fair share... Just look at the wheelarches. With that much of a gap, the WC50 creates intercompany competition to the Countryman :)) This edition should be more like the GP. Less weight overall; carbon-shell front bucket seats; deleted rear seats; remapped engine with new turbo & matching intercooler; Lowered suspension (how about race-spec separate reservoir dampers just like Clio Cup editions of Renault?); Modified anti-rollbar's at front & rear The list could go on and on. That would be 40 grand in my eyes and not this fried Kermit!
