Based on the Opel Astra

The Buick Excelle sedan has been caught undisguised in China.

Based on the Opel Astra platform, the Excelle features a waterfall grille, distinctive headlights, hood-mounted porthole vents, and controversial taillights. Inside everything appears Astra-spec, except the badge on the steering wheel.

Oddly enough, Buick recently unveiled the China-only Excelle XT hatchback. As a badge-engineered Opel Astra, it looks completely different than the Excelle sedan.

While details are limited, power will likely be provided by a variety of four-cylinder petrol engines. They include a 1.6-liter with 116 hp (85 kW / 118 PS) and 155 Nm (114 lb-ft) of torque, a 1.8 liter engine with 138 hp (103 kW / 140 PS) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque, and a turbocharged 1.6-liter with 180 hp (135 kW / 183 PS) and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of torque.

Expect the Chinese version to be unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show, while the U.S. model will likely debut early next year.

Hmm. I like the rear lights. That's about it, really. They don't even fit to the look of the rest of the car. The air vents on the hood look tacky. If they are even real.

I kind of like the rear lights. It may be the angle but the rear quarter panel looks odd.

Buick WAS on a roll. But this just stopped it. This looks like a glorified Dodge Neon. The rear lamps are horrible and the proportions are all wrong! They really would have done better badge engineering the Opel Astra on this one, following suit of the Buick Regal/Opel Insignia. the front end of this car harks the LaCrosse which no longer makes the LaCrosse so distinct. Buick this is a bad move. Why would anyone in their right mind purchase this over a high end Chevy Cruze? The Buick Regal needed to be the least expensive car in Buick's line up. They should have focus on a better replacement for the Lucerne, and a Riviera/Velite Coupe model.

This is for China, not the U.S. I dont think there are any plans to bring this to the states at the moment and if they do you can bet it will look different than this. Totally agree that they need to produce the Riviera concept, that was a beautiful car.

I wish that it wasn't for the U.S., but unfortunately this model is. GM decided to make this Global entry level Buick model. It was made referenced to and previewed back in December at a closed door meeting. This will be a new generation of the Excelle for China. And a first for the U.S. I just see flop writen all over this..... GM doesnt have tp go to far back to look at entry level Buick flops.....think Skylark.

Looks like they've copied rear lights of the new E-class without the chrome strip.

I think Kappa is dead, they've closed the plant plus both Pontiac and Saturn are dead. Only Opel is using it for their GT.

Well, that would be perfect then. This is based on the Opel Astra, so why not a Opel GT based Buick Reatta? Who would turn up their nose at a 300hp V6/5-speed convertible? Buick could have the first exciting product since 1987 when they killed off the Buick GN/GNX.

this sedan dosn't looks very special, but it looks very good. the rearlights are braver then the rest of the car, but over all it has a dynamic, but conservative design without experiments. Can't understand the word ugly for such a car. and what whould be so bad selling this car to US? noone who dislike it have to order it, right?

Cadillac Cavalier revisited. GM never learns from their mistakes. More engineering and less marketing not the other way around.
