Hennessey Venom GT on the street in UK [Video]

Top speed of 272 mph (440 km/h)

Hennessey has released a video of the Venom GT being driven near Silverstone, England.

While the clip isn't terribly exciting, you can't deny the allure of a 725 hp (541 kW / 735 PS) supercar that weighs less than 2,400 pounds (1,071 kilograms). As John Hennessey explains, "...I was expecting it to feel fast. But what shocked me was how docile the car is to drive at any speed. It was just as happy to meander along at 20 mph through English country villages as it was to effortlessly accelerate to 120 mph."

As you may recall, the Venom GT is a carbon fiber masterpiece based on the Lotus Elise/Exige. Three versions will be available: the aforementioned base model uses a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 engine (from the Corvette ZR1), while the 1000 hp (746 kW / 1014 PS) and 1200 hp (895 kW / 1217 PS) models use a twin-turbo V8. The latter version accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.4 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 272 mph (440 km/h) - easily surpassing the Bugatti Veyron's top speed of 254 mph (408 km/h).

I was expecting a better sound too. Shouldn't the article start with Theoretical Top Speed of 272mph? It has not been tested at top yet has it? Regardless, it is a hugely interesting car particularly in 1200hp guise which I am excited to see in a proper test.

Hmm, it was either not being pushed very hard or the engine note is way to tame. I don't think all the 1.2k horses were unleashed anyway.

Lotus is my favorite auto maker and Hennessey tunes some very fast cars, but i truly doubt this thing will prove the numbers they say it will. Hopefully they'll prove me wrong.

the license plate says it's from 2007 - which means the elise they based it off was a 2007 model. not impressed by the fat arse, not a very good stance (the elise's look was ruined)

Even if it "only" reaches 250mph I doubt many will be truly disapointed. I'm far more concerned about the 'Ring time because I'm hoping they didn't just build a drag racer disguised as a sports car.

They didn't open the taps too much you can hear. I'm also scared this thing can't take corners but phwoaar! I love what it is, I hope it performs.

You people really focus on the wrong things. If you want a better sounding exhaust, get an aftermarket one. But it doesn't matter, none of you can afford this car, thus making your opinion invalid.

True,we do not care about the sound... Just curious to see how true these figures are... reading the guy is surprised how the car handles in a village I doubt the car is ready to be sold...
