On sale next year

Chevrolet has released official pictures of the 2012 Camaro Convertible on Facebook.

While no details were provided, the convertible looks virtually identical to the coupe. Changes include a repositioned third brake light, a trunk-mounted antenna, and a key slot for opening the rear trunk.

Like the coupe, power will be provided by a 312 hp (233 kW/ 316 PS) 3.6-liter V6, a 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) 6.2-liter V8, and a 426 hp (318 kW / 432 PS) 6.2-liter V8.

GM released pre-production photos way back in 2008. Scheduled to go into production early next year, sales will likely begin in April 2011.

I still think it's the best looking of the Pony-Trio and without the roof, the visibility issue is solved (more or less)

Love it. I went to the prom in a IROC-Z convertible. Good memories!

Always fan of the exterior but interior is just too retro for my taste.

Why tease a convertible version? The appearance isn't exactly going to be a mystery. Still, looks great. I remember seeing the Camaro Convertible Concept at London 2008, bright orange with black stripes. Tasty!

nice car. but that engine, that v8, oh my god ..... is it awful. why does chevy offer it in 2 powers? 400 and 420? they simply change the air filter on it and ..voila.. what's the point

If I'm not mistaken the V8 must be detuned when fitted with the automatic because it can't handle the power. I'm guessing the CTS-V automatic is just too expensive, who knows. I'd rather just have the non-detuned engine and take my chances.

Actually the automatic version is fitted with variable valve timing so that the fuel economy will not go down as compared to the manual version. If you look at the specs you will also see that the automatic equipped engines make a bit more torque at a lower rpm than the manual version. It's usually the torque that kills transmissions, not horsepower so I am willing to bet the transmission is plenty capable of handling all the power these engines provide.
