2011 Lotus Elise Posts Lowest CO2 Emissions of Any Sportscar in its Segment Worldwide
2011 Lotus Elise Facelift - 16.02.2010

0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds

Lotus has announced the 2011 Elise (facelift) has a CO2 emissions rating of 149 g/km - the lowest of any sportscar in its segment.

The achievement is due to the Elise's new 1.6-liter four cylinder VVT-I engine. Producing 136 PS (100 kW / 134 hp), the engine allows the 876 kg (1,930 lb) car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds (0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds). If those figures aren't impressive enough, the Elise returns 56.1 mpg (5.04 liters per 100 km) in the extra urban cycle.

Look for the 2011 Elise to start arriving at UK dealerships later this month.

We are delighted to announce that the new 2011 Lotus Elise has just been certified with an outstandingly low emissions figure of 149g of CO2 / km which represents a reduction of 16% over the previous Lotus Elise S.

This means that the Elise has the lowest CO2 for its performance level for any gasoline sportscar in the world.

Not only does this low emissions figure give a greener drive with less guilt but it also relates directly to fuel consumption with the new Elise turning in an impressive figure of 56.1 mpg (5.04 litres per 100 km) extra urban. This means that the Lotus Elise could travel a colossal 500 miles (800 km) on one tank of fuel - the equivalent of Paris to Marseille or London to Aberdeen.*

Fed up with the figures yet? Stay with us, there's more.

These world leading emissions and economy figures are a direct result of Lotus' commitment to its core values of performance through light weight and efficiency. The Elise weighs just 876 kg and to put this weight into perspective, a nameless convertible sportscar from Stuttgart (Germany) weighs in at 1335 kg.

Aerodynamics have been improved by 4% and a new super efficient, 1.6 litre 4 cylinder VVT-I engine has been installed which is 200 cc smaller than the engine in the outgoing Lotus Elise S and produces the same power. And the performance figures speak for themselves: 0-60 mp/h in 6.0 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds!

Are you ready to celebrate with us?

All the front-end looks of a Ferrari California with a fraction of the environmental guilt.

Those numbers are impressive. This car makes more sense for a normal daily life than all those V8+ engines.

since when 136bhp car with 6.5s from 0-100kph is considered a sports car?

uhmm, really? I have driven 06 STI and LP560, and my Golf V GTI does 0-100kph in 6.9 with DSG and it is not a sports car for sure, especially compared with the mighty accelaration of the gallardo. After having driven these cars I suspect that I know what I am talking about? So take my advice - get some lambo or a ferrari for a ride and then talk about sports car, please.

Are you seriously questioning whether the Elise is a sportscar? What do you think it is then? Seriously I mean. You clearly haven't driven one. Or a Caterham or Aerial Atom or X-Bow or anything that is so connected they make every other car feel like a video game (that, incidentally, is not a good thing).

I am not talking about weight distrubition, mid-engined construction and weight alone - that all contribute to that sports car feeling and track times. But come on, it's more about fun car than a sports car. And this car can accelarate to the 100kph decent, but above that speed is slow, as any car with such a power. And what's the maximum speed 210kph?

You're comparing a tiny ?25,000 sports car to Italian Supercars? They're not even in the same league! And this car only has a small amount of power because that's all it needs to do the job thanks to light, balanced weight and argubly the best suspension for sports driving in the business. Want more on a straight? Try an Exige or the 2-Eleven track weapon. Numbers to boast about do not a complete sports car make. Don't discount handling or having fun either. That's what SPORTS cars are all about. Especially ones from Lotus.

@Mikeado....CO2 emissions has nothing to do with vehicle weight or aerodynamics, just means the engine runs nice and clean.

Since CO2 emissions depend pretty much on mpg, light weight and aerodynamics play a huge role in CO2 emissions.

light weight and aero has to do with mpg and co2.and as far as it being a sports car, 6 seconds might not seem as fast as other sports cars of today but look back at the ferrari cars 30 or 40 years ago they had the same speed and they were sports cars, but my point it not that. point is if u have ever driven an elise or an exige the 0-6 could be 8 seconds and it still will be a sports car, that thing on a track is a monster and nothing will handle like it on the track or canyons out the box

To be honest quick123, I was thinking more about the mpg figure. Not having as much weight to haul around and not battling so much with drag means the engine doesn't try so hard/ is under less stress, thus improving mpg. As for CO2, I can't say with any wisdom how that's affected by things.
