Infiniti G Series to get Mercedes engine under new alliance
2010 Infiniti G37 Anniversary Edition 11.03.2010

Will be a inline four-cylinder

With the ink barely dry on the Daimler/Renault/Nissan partnership, new details have emerged about future technology sharing.

According to a recent report, the Infiniti G Series will receive a Mercedes inline four-cylinder engine. While nothing is official, speculation seems to suggest the G will be outfitted with the 1.8-liter engine from the C 180 CGI, C 200 CGI and the C 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY models. If this is correct, we can expect a power rating of 115 kW (154 hp / 156 PS) to 150 kW (201 hp / 204 PS).

As we reported yesterday, the alliance calls for the three companies to share diesel and petrol engines to save costs and meet stricter fuel economy/emission regulations.

i believe that nissan's engines is better than BMW & MB's new tiny engines. I mean as a engine not as a full mechanism.

No one makes a better engine than BMW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Engine_of_the_Year). Plus, downsizing is the way to go, smaller and lighter engines that are just as powerful.

I also think Nissan's engines are better than those companies' small engines. Of course, as long as the engines are reliable and efficient, that is all I care. A diesel will definitely be good.

...fine, if the the top of the line "G" gets the C63's engine...and retains a 6 (or 7) speed manual... That would be AWESOME!!!

Yes, Infiniti G63 AMG coming to an Infiniti dealer near you. LOL. Hmm, they might be able to utilize the new AMG 5.5L V8 with force induction in the new infiniti M's.

I am sure they will still continue to offer the Nissan V6's...now it just has a smaller engine option. The 1.8L 4cyl. turbo engine from MB is a good engine that would make most small displacement V6's jealous. It would be a good addition to the G Series because it only has a big displacement V6 and down-sized engine options would make it more appealing for most "run of the mill" near luxury sedan buyers (=posers) who really don't have the need for the 3700cc engine (which means higher tax rates.) It's a good business move. That's what this relationship is all about...expanding the business opportunities for both companies...not soul sharing!

Infiniti and Nissan should keep their originality, they have the best built V6 engines ever made, why would you put another counrty's car engine under the hood and then market it as your own, its an insult to Nissan and Infiniti, if anything market a hybrid VQ37 G37 since their all for preserving the enviornment. an "inline four cylinder" your kidding right.
