GM Preparing Twin-Turbo V6 to Compete with Fords EcoBoost Engine

A rumour says General Motors is finally joining other major motor manufacturers with a twin turbo six-cylinder engine. According to GMInsidenews.com, a direct injection 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo engine is being developed to compete with Ford's 3.5-litre Ecoboost motor which makes 355 hp (265 kW / 360 PS) in the Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT.  In the Ford Taurus SHO it produces 365 hp (268kW / 370 PS)

No power figures were reported yet but a few years ago there were rumours of a 3.6-litre twin turbo V6 from GM worth 435 hp (324 kW / 441 PS).

The new engine is said to carry the codename LF3, an extension of the existing naturally aspirated 3.0-litre's LF1 code. Should it come to market it will likely debut in a Cadillac, most probably in 2011 or early 2012. A few candidates for first use include the Cadillac XTS and the Chevrolet Camaro.

This is good stuff. Chryslers twin turbo V6 will be 470 hp and single turbo is 320 hp. It is being built on the world engine platform. To bad it won't be here sooner

Yeah, 470hp from a Chrysler developed V6 seems VERY improbable...

This seems like a perfect engine for the, now dead, Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky. Old GM would let those chassis die. Will the new GM?

I was thinking just that, but I don't think the manufacturers will resurrect a platform because of an engine. Usually works the other way around. Too bad. Would put the MX-5 to shame for good!

Perhaps, the chassis could live on as a sporty youth oriented Buick? Such a car could go a long way to attract young people back to Buick. There was a time in history when young people lusted after Buicks for their power and greater sophistication over a Chevy/Pontiac.
