First Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition to be Auctioned at Barrett-Jackson

First Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition to be Auctioned at Barrett-Jackson
2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition 24.03.2010

Only 500 units of the Z06 Carbon Limited Edition will be made

Chevrolet will be auctioning-off the very first unit of the upcoming Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition at the Barrett-Jackson event in Palm Beach, Florida next month.

Only 500 units of the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon will be made for the series, and the winner of the bid will also get a tour of GM's Performance Build Center to watch that first Z06 Carbon come off the production line. The plant, located in Wixom, Michigan, is also where GM builds the hand-crafted LS7 and LS9 engines found in the Z06 and ZR1 Corvette range.

The Corvette Z06 Carbon is a commemorative edition celebrating the 50th anniversary of Corvette's first 24-hour LeMans race. Features include a carbon fiber raised hood, Magnetic Ride Control, carbon ceramic brakes from Brembo and rockers and splitter in carbon fiber black for a lighter, more aerodynamic design.

"The Corvette Z06 Carbon will surely be an instant collectible. For that reason, we see Barrett-Jackson as the premiere venue to sell the first retail Z06 Carbon," said Jim Campbell, vice president for marketing at Chevrolet USA.

The Barrett-Jackson auction takes place from April 1 to April 3.

Chevrolet to auction first retail Corvette Z06 Carbon at Barrett-Jackson, Palm Beach

DETROIT - The first of 500 retail 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition coupes will go to the highest bidder at Barrett-Jackson in Palm Beach, Fla., on April 3.

The winning bidder will also be given the unique opportunity to tour GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich., home of the hand-built LS7 and LS9 engines found in the Z06 and ZR1 respectively. The winner will also have the opportunity to watch the car going down the line at the famed Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Ky.

"The Corvette Z06 Carbon will surely be an instant collectible," said Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President, Chevrolet Marketing. "For that reason, we see Barrett-Jackson as the premiere venue to sell the first retail Z06 Carbon."

The Corvette Z06 Carbon was designed as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Corvette's first race in the 24 Hours of LeMans. As such, it continues the technology transfer between the production Corvette and racing.

Notable features of the Z06 Carbon include Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, Michelin PS2 tires, Magnetic Ride Control and enhanced cooling. Black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter enhance the Z06's dynamic design and reduce mass and aerodynamic lift.

This auction continues Chevrolet's tradition of offering exciting cars at Barrett-Jackson. At the Scottsdale, Ariz., auction in 2008, the first retail production 2009 Corvette ZR1 sold for $1,000,000. The first retail 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was also sold for $350,000 at a Barrett-Jackson auction last year. Most recently, a limited edition Corvette Z06 (number 427 of 427 produced) garnered $200,000, all of which was donated to the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

The Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction runs from April 1 to April 3.

So this is how GM makes money these days. Make a bunch of special limited edition Corvettes and auction them off.

from your handle, i would guess that you prefer the sophistication and styling of a fine german built coupe. while i'll tolerate your off-handed comment about America's own car company, I will not allow your huftgurdel wearing pansy-ass to block me in the fast lane...move over and make way for the king!!!

Sorry what do you drive..a Chevy Cobalt? As for my comment, you can't deny it's untrue considering all the special edition Corvettes GM has come out with. Sure the Corvette is a fast car, I just prefer something German-built and refined.

2010S: I do agree that the term "special edition" has been abused by manufacturers. However, I strongly disagree in this regard. The Z06 has earned it's position in motor enthusiasts minds as a great car. It's unfair to say that ALL German cars are better and more "refined". Don't forget this car was basically engineered on the Ring, IN GERMANY! And so what if 1nsider does drive a Cobalt -which I doubt he does. Don't forget too that the Cobalt SS achieved the fastest time around the ring on a FF platform. Based on your name, is it safe to say that you own an S5? If so, I personally think you're either just some Audi fan boy wannabe, or someone who bought an Audi for the status of a German badge. PS: Only the 1st car is being auctioned, not all. It's for marketing purposes for down the road, not for income from the one single sale.

I was not bashing the Corvette. I like the car for its looks and speed no doubt, but to my knowledge, GM produces/has produced at least 10 variants of the C6 Corvette, more than half of which are 'special, limited, whatever editions'. I find that to be a bit excessive..brings to mind all the 'special edition' Mustangs that Ford has made. Really it's no secret that German cars are in fact more refined than American cars. I'd say the one shortcoming of the Corvette is its primitive interior. Anyways when it comes to sports cars, Americans are all about brute force, Europeans take more to refinement. I'm not one to say what's better but European refinement certainly suits my wants and needs better. The S5 is my car of choice, yes partly because of my preference for Audi as a brand and yes partly because of the status that the Audi badge holds. We would all be lying if we said we don't buy Mercedes, BMWs, Porsches, etc. without taking into consideration the prestige that the badge holds. But I happen to love the S5 for its understated exterior/interior styling, exhaust note, practicality (4WD for the winters) and the fact that it's one of the best all-round cars in its price range that also happens to fit mine. I won't be assed into proving that I own one but that's all I have to say.

You gotta be kidding me!! I cannot believe the nerve of this guy, comments about to many versions of the same car!? That's hard to take coming from the line-up of the A6, A6 Quattro, A6 Avant, R6, RS6, S6, etc. So....how many is too many? Well, when you are dominating the street & the track like the C6 is, and that means domestics and imports alike, I would say enough is never enough. Seems to me that if the European cars were so much more "refined" they might have found a way to at least catch up to the tail lights of a corvette. You call it "refinement" I call it EXCUSES!
