Inspired by the F800 concept

New information has emerged further clarifying the supposed Mercedes B-Class AMG we reported yesterday.  According to Autocar it will actually be a four-door coupe based on the B-Class platform - not an AMG powered five-door compact MPV.

Inspired by the F800 concept, which recently debuted at that Geneva Motor Show, the car (reportedly codenamed C117 EVO) will likely measure less than 4500mm (177 inches) in length. As a modern day successor to the 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II, it will feature bold styling and a luxurious interior.

Power will be provided by a supercharged 3.2-liter V6 with approximately 400 bhp (298 kW / 406 PS). Based on the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, which will be introduced on the new CLS 350, the engine will feature a smaller displacement and an electrically-operated pressure wave supercharger.

Despite riding on the front-wheel drive MFA platform, which will also be used in the next generation A-Class, the four-door AMG will likely offer all-wheel drive with a rear-biased setup.

While nothing is official, a possible launch is slated for 2012 or 2013.

Looks Great, but that's probably because I see a lot of BMW CS Concept in it..

I'm absolutely thrilled to see a successor to the 190E EVO II, especially since BMW just announced making the 3-series even bigger. "not an AMG powered five-door compact MPV" - THANK GOD "supercharged 3.2-liter V6 with approximately 400 bhp" - WOW "will likely offer all-wheel drive with a rear-biased setup." - YES I'm actually thrilled about this car. B32 AMG Kompressor 4-Matic. Doesn't that have a nice ring to it!?! This car WILL acquire a ton of market share. Both in a new segment, and from competitors in many different segments.

I totally share your view. I think this would be a perfect time for Mercedes to launch such a car, because the market is more amenable to small sporty luxury vehicles and BMW is resting on its laurels and divergnig from its ethos IMO.

Exactly. They're abusing the amazing name that 80's and 90's BMW built, and I think it's irresponsible. All in all a massive sell-out...

I remember reading some time ago in autobild that the new b class platform should give birth to many interesting new models. It is supposed to be ready for a 4 wheel drive as well as a hybrid system. Firstly there should be the regular b class, then slightly SUVed up version of it, probably something like a golf plus cross but actually with awd. But here it gets intersting. No A class, but instead a hatch to compete with the audi a3. And then a very compact 4 door saloon thats supposed to be really attractive and coupe like, something like a mini cls. They supposedly wanna atract young people with stylish yet relatively affordable models. This seems to indicate that this new AMG thing might be true, and i read that quite a long time ago. I am however not sure about the EVO. If anything make it something like a c class black series type of thing. I dont think doing something on this platform would do the evo much honor and it makes no historical sense because the evo is based on the first c class type of car. It would make more sense to do something like a turbo 4 cylinder amg to go against the golf GTIs and such rather this nonsense. I really hope that mercedes makes the hatch and that they are not cheap like many times before and that they get it right. If the four door looks a bit like that concept then job well done

A more direct A3 competitor would be very interesting. I'd like it if there were a 4-Matic version though.

If anyone at BMW is reading, THIS is the kind of stuff you should be thinking about, not some ugly weird looking cars.

I like where the rumors suggest Mercedes-Benz will take their entry level offerings. And the introduction of this thing in 2012-13 timeframe is perfect for me since I'll be ending my 2009 Acura TL lease around the same time. MB: count yourself a customer in the 2012-13 time frame.

Best news I've heard in a long time! My old C32 AMG had 350 hps out of 3.2L V6...with a pulley, exhaust manifold job it was close to 400hp...and a lot of fun to drive on the high ways. This car should be lighter so it should be much more fun! With awd it makes for the perfect daily car for me! Where should be be sending our deposits for this car?

Maybe it is time for BMW to create a sedan version of its 1-Series and call it the 2-Series, a spiritual successor of the lovable E30. A modern day E36 is not a bad idea as well.

very good idea, almost perfect, just make it RWD instead of AWD.

This looks so Audi from the back... nice, but uninspired. Mercedes should have more pride and individuality in terms of design. They made some great cars but some things about them are getting on my nerves. This is one. Another one is the stupid names they call some cars: Viano, Vaneo, Vito etc. I asked them about those stupid names politics and they said it has resonance in some cultures. What cultures? They should make some serious marketing changes.

Why does everyone keep saying that Mercedes needs to be more individual in their design, when everyone has a different idea of what each car looks like? This seriously can't look like a BMW Concept CS,VW Passat CC,BMW X6 and Audi all at the same time.OH wait.I know.It looks JUST like an R8 :D Oh,and also, the VW Passat CC was designed to look like the CLS.So,make your own conclusions...
