Lexus LFA Special Edition Announced
Minor tweaks, added performance
Lexus has unveiled the first images of the LFA Special Edition.
While details are scarce, the car features a front lip spoiler, aerodynamic canards or winglets on the sides of the front bumper, a fixed rear wing made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, unique wheels, and an exclusive paint job (in black, matte black, pure white, or orange).
In terms of performance, the special edition boasts a revised suspension, a quicker transmission (it shifts .05 seconds faster), and additional power. The 4.8-liter V10 produces approximately 570 PS (419 kW / 562 hp) - an increase of 10 PS (7 kW / 10 hp).
No word on pricing or availability, but look for more information to be released in the coming months.

Isn't a normal LFA overpriced as it is? Who's going to buy a limited edition? It's probably to commemorate their participation in 24 Hours of Nurburgring.

Lol, commemorate their successful completion of 24 hours of Nurburgring. (if they can do it this year)

Commemorate their successful completion of 24 hours of Nurburgring... without lighting itself on fire.

The Irony/Stupidity of the comments after mikeado kill me. Lexus has finished a fair amount of 24 hour races and other endurance races in the Rolex sports car series. You can't blame tools like yourselves though.

Not upset scratchy...just find it interesting that your blind ignorance allows you to omit all of the successful things Toyota has done in racing.

an even more expensive version for even more ridiculous rich people
They got the money to burn, and we can only dream what that feels like

See what I mean about all these special/limited/annivery edition thing going overboard with all these car companies. Now there's one before the car even hit the street.

Does it look a bit like the seventh gen. Celica in the first picture?

"a fixed rear wing made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic", I would have a full carbon fiber wing & not plastic. Overpriced & not a fast car & ugly at the same time.
March 16, 2010 1:31 pm
CFRP has been around in many supercars for a while now. And how fast does a car need to be for you not to consider it "not a fast car"
March 16, 2010 11:33 pm
The plastic in the CFRP also gives the wing more structural integrity over full carbon.
March 17, 2010 6:01 am
The full carbon fiber wing will be available on an upcoming Limited Edition of a Special Edition Lexus LFA Special Edition. Available in about 5 weeks.
March 17, 2010 8:09 am
guys, CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) is what everybody calls carbon fiber.
industry calls it CFRP.
the "plastic" is what holds the carbons fiber together...
like FGRP (fiber glass reinforced plastic) commonly named polyester.
the plastic is the cement that makes materials like carbon fiber, kevlar, fiber glass and other. hence the composite material definition.

these 'limited edition' of a 'special edition' sucks. certainly there are ultra exclusive individuals who want theirs to be very unique, but to the other 4-500 owners who now become 'SECOND CLASS' after paying this much for exclusivity, it is poor marketing.
March 16, 2010 1:54 pm
That's retarded logic. I'm not even going to explain. Do limited/speical editions of Bugattis, Maybachs and just about every ultra-expensive car not come to mind?
March 16, 2010 11:22 pm
bahahahahaha, they just came out with a car and already they are releasing a version that has a quicker transmission. Does that mean they purposely put in a slower transmission to come out with a special edition in the future? HAHa, that is so stupid.
March 16, 2010 1:57 pm
the improved gearbox has 0.15s gear changes. the old gearbox in the Scuderia needs 0.06s to change gears and the gearbox in the F458 is even faster. this is another reason why the LFA is lame and overpriced compared to modern cars.
March 16, 2010 3:12 pm
It's lame because its gear changes are tenths of a second slower than a Ferrari's? This car is an engineering masterpiece in itself and no slug either from what I've read in reviews. Even consider it's Lexus' first supercar. If you're going to hate find some legitimate reasons to.
March 16, 2010 11:30 pm
WTF! A special edition of a car that is supposed to be a limited edition? The "base" model was supposed to be scarce itself...and now they pull this crap.
As Chris25 says...fixed wing made of carbon fiber reinforced PLASTIC!!! hahaha...
This made my day...what a joke...
And finally they really shouldn't use the first picture too much...it does indeed look too much like the last Celica!
Toyota...come back to your senses...don't be too arrogant...Lexus is not a luxury car maker and does not belong in the price stratosphere that you're trying to market this car in...
Do us real car fans...the ones that are making you money...a favor and use the resources for making this car on speeding up the production of the spiritual successor of the AE-86.
The masses will love you again.

funny that the most nagative comments are made by the guys who would jizz their pants if they got this car for free.
March 17, 2010 7:25 am
That argument could be use for pretty much any car.
The stupid thing about this car and its transmission is the fact that the car is barely out and already they are offering a faster transmission for it. Leaves you questioning why that faster tranny was not put in from the start since the car is overpriced as is anyway.
March 17, 2010 8:21 pm
That's why it's called a 'special edition' idiot. And as WCF "No word on pricing or availability".
March 17, 2010 9:46 pm
Only idiot left here is you. You failed to see the point of my argument.
Top gear has done a review of the car. The car is ridiculously overpriced. I would put my money on the 458 Italia any day. Its cheaper, faster, looks better, and does not have a Toyota badge on it.
March 17, 2010 11:39 pm
as described by Hammond - this car is an engineer's wet dream - lexus managment gave them money and they could create what they wanted - this is how this car was born. I mean it's 4 seconds faster on a wet track than a gallardo, despite lambo being awd car. This car is masterpiece in terms of engineering, it's like GT-R^2. You are right though, it's more expensive than a, amazing as well, 458 Italia and I can't imagine even myself, the guy who really appreciates engineering level of LF-A, buying a Lexus instead of 458.
One thing though - 458 is not any faster than an LF-A an I actually prefer the styling of a Lexus. BUT, it's a Ferrari and it costs much less.
March 18, 2010 12:32 am
Top Gear's review of this car was very positive. And so what if this car's ridiculously overpriced. There's still a market for it. And do I care if it's a couple seconds around a track than a 458? No, not really. As for looks, they're a subjective matter.
March 18, 2010 9:05 am
I hope it doesn't have a sudden acceleration pedal !! oh wait !! it is a sport car so it needs a sudden acceleration pedal .. LOL
March 17, 2010 11:42 am
Not upset scratchy, i just find it interesting that you completely ignore everything Toyota HAS accomplished due to your aforementioned ignorance. At first you seem smart...then...not.
