Bernie Ecclestone thinks F1 should wait three more races before deciding that the refuelling ban is a rule failure.

Some teams are pushing for an immediate reaction to Sunday's processional season opener in Bahrain, such as the imposition of a second mandatory pistop per driver.

But the sport's chief executive Ecclestone told PA Sport that he thinks some races last year were just as boring as Bahrain.

"It wasn't the sort of race that would excite most people I would suppose," the Briton admitted.

"But I think we ought to judge these things a little later on. It's a bit early. We ought to wait until we come back from China."

The 79-year-old confirmed that a second mandatory pitstop is one option, but he also re-proposed his bizarre idea of installing 'shortcuts' on the circuits that could be used by drivers a certain amount of times per race.

"I'm pushing, but sometimes people don't understand these things too well, they don't see the advantages.

"It would be good for TV, and you'd get a lot of excitement out of it," said Ecclestone.

LOL if only he would! They should've stayed one more year, always applied high downforce and just done the whole race flat out on hard tyres.

Shortcuts? In Formula 1? Is he mad? He really does think that this, the supposed pinancle of all motorsport, is his multi-billion pound Scalextric set!! (I can just imagine him kneeling down in his attic pushing cars around and throwing bits of the Donington Park and Silverstone sets at the wall.)Surely people would just try to keep close to the leader and use it in the last lap to ruin everything, or use all their goes up at once to pull out a big lead. And besides, if you owned a track, would you let a crazed old man put big shortcuts in it for use once a year? Me neither. I do agree that there should be no immediate reaction to Bahrain (but then, at least three other F1 people have said that already). It's always really boring. All Tilke circuits are. The pair of them should leave, or at least Tilke should look at circuits that provide overtaking for inspiration, rather than 2nd gear switchbacks and excessive hairpins. All straights and brakes, then with a fiddly complex thrown in for little reason other than to make it look less like an Etch-a-Sketch drawing. The Korean and Indian circuits are much the same. Straight - slow corner - straight - slow corner - get someone heavily drunk to attempt drawing a straight line - straight - corner - Finish.
