Fernando Alonso on Sunday won his first race for Ferrari.

The Spaniard drove past pole sitter Sebastian Vettel during the season opening Bahrain grand prix when the leading Red Bull developed an exhaust problem.

With reduced power, German Vettel was able to finish fourth.

"Luckily I could continue but we should have won really," the 22-year-old told the BBC.

Felipe Massa, who was passed by Alonso on the first lap, had strong pace at Sakhir but was passed by Alonso on the first lap.

He was emotional on his return to F1 after his recovery from injury.

"I was saving fuel for the last 30 laps," said the Brazilian, at the end of the first grand prix since 1993 with no in-race refuelling.

Nico Rosberg completed his impressive clean-sweep of beating Michael Schumacher this weekend by finishing one place ahead of the seven time world championship in fifth.

World champion Jenson Button, and Vettel's teammate Mark Webber, were just seventh and eighth.

This race was surprisingly, tired & boring, because Sebastian Vettel suddenly lost power or something. Then it became boring since some of the cars were unable to overtake. Anyways, a good start for Alonso but I hope the future races become better, of course there are is always monaco, italy & SPA race will be exciting to see.

not the most interesting race, interesting that cars numbered 1-8 ended up in top 8 places. shows that in the current world of f1, with no engine development, low budgets, virtually no testing, you are much better off to have several years under your belt - and most importantly A GOOD CARRY OVER PACKAGE FROM PREVIOUS YEAR. the circuit is actually probably the best for a season opener, although not the most interesting, it works as a great test of several setup areas with high, mid and low speed corners, good straights, plenty of runoff areas (we'll probably never see a safety car except in a multi car pileup). considering 8 retirements, it's not a bad thing.

Very well said. F1 is fun but the sport needs some competitiveness all around. Why is always the same teams winning. At least in Le Mans you would would have various teams challenging Audi. Other classes being even more competitive.

Totally agree. It was processional. The new rules have had the opposite affect of their intention.
