Audi RS 5 and Ur-quattro Meet on Track [Video]

Have a look at this pretty video featuring the new Audi RS 5 as well as the original Ur-quattro (from 3:00 to 3:45) from the 1980s. Placing the cars together on a track connects them in an emotional and historical context, the Ur-quattro being the all-conquering rally god of its time while the RS 5 aims to sit atop its own modern segment. Don't forget to pump up the volume.

Audi premiered the RS 5 at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show after many months of speculation surrounding its powertrain. Officially it has a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 making 331 kW (444 bhp / 450 PS) and torque of 430Nm (317 lb-ft), all sent to the four wheels via the quattro AWD system and a 7-speed S Tronic transmission.

Sales of the RS 5 will start in Europe this spring at a minimum price of around €77,000 (US$105,144).

Almost the same price as R8 in American Dollars. I'd take the R8 instead.

I didn't know that's how much a R8 cost in the US. That's actually quite cheap. I thought it's twice that price.

R8 starts at 114,200 in US. I have actually seen one for 108,000 at a local dealership.

The price in euros of the car is not at all reflective of the price of the car in USD. It is a known fact that the US gets cars at a significantly cheaper price than does the rest of the world.

The dollar is worth nothing now. If all the European and Japanese car makers decide to use the exhange rate based on their domestic car prices, we wouldn't be seeing many imported cars on the road.

I don't get this car. It has 10Nm LESS torque than an S5, it is only 0.3s faster from 0-100kph than an S5 and the premium price you pay over S5 is huge. I'm not a BMW fan, but M3 is clearly a winner here, with better performance figures and I'm sure that S5 doesn't give as much fun, what's more it's not better than an M3 in terms of everything else. M3 killer? Not.

M3 sounds better, but its looks make up for that and some. Too bad it never looked fast.

I too prefer the sound in the M3, it is just distinctive. Would love to see what this car can do at its limit. Rear wheel drive with a manual box is a lot more fun me thinks.

You do all realise this is a straight Euro-Dollar conversion and no indication of its US price?
